Trip Dancer
The Pillows Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Pillows's song Trip Dancer speak of the struggles of living in a society that is set in its ways, where people are just expected to conform to the expectations of others. The first verse talks of the difficulty of accepting and living in the reality that is presented to us. The alarm ringing signifies the start of a new day, but we are unable to wake up from the monotonous routine forced upon us. The second line says that this reality is what we were born into, and it's not something we have a choice in. The third and fourth lines talk about how we are expected to conform and overcome hurdles presented to us by society, and how all of this is entirely impossible to get used to.

The second verse moves towards a more hopeful narrative. It speaks of the possibility of something better, something that can finally move us away from our present struggles. The third line of the verse is interesting, as it speaks of the desire to make someone else happy, who has managed to conquer their own struggles which we are still mired in. The fourth line is the most powerful, as it speaks of stealing a star from the sky and the possibility of something changing. Even though it might seem implausible, the idea here is of the power of imagination and the strength of thought.

Overall, The Pillows's Trip Dancer speaks about the power of individual thought and how it can give us hope even in times of struggle.

Yeah

Dream dancing

The most flawless rock song I've ever heard. The drums, guitars, vocals, chord progression, bassline... it's all just so perfect. These guys are underrated af.

@aye2you

Can't disagree

This song is emotional to me. I heard it on a Japanese radio app and started crying when I suddenly had a bunch of flashbacks. I would listen to this song all the time back in middle school. Only it was the live version. I love the pillows so much!!!! They disserve to be way more famous!

Those kid actors are awesome. At 2:11, the eye-roll between the adult and kid version of the singer is absolutely spot-on.
