They consist of 山中さわお (Sawao Yamanaka) -vocals & guitar-, 真鍋吉明 (Yoshiaki Manabe) -guitar-, 佐藤シンイチロウ (Shinichiro Sato) -drums-.
The band officially formed on September 16, 1989 as a four-man group. The fourth man and original bassist, 上田ケンジ (Kenji Ueda), left the band in 1992 to become a music producer and do solo work. Since then, 鹿島達也 (Tatsuya Kashima) and later 鈴木淳 (Jun Suzuki) have taken his place as supporting bassists. Neither Kashima nor Suzuki have been named official members out of respect for Ueda.

Wonderful Sight
The Pillows Lyrics

タイガーテイルでさえ
カカトでねじる
もうすぐなんだ
キミはいなくなって
風だけが騒ぐ
A just wonderful sight
万能な・・・を飲み込んで
導火線を片手に
火遊びしたい
もうすぐなんだ
ボクもいなくなって
風だけが騒ぐ
Is this twilight?
もうすぐなんだ
誰もいなくなって
風だけが騒ぐ
隠していた赤い舌を出して
手招きしている
A just wonderful sight
The opening lines of The Pillows’ song, Wonderful Sight, are filled with complexity and ambiguity as they depict a sense of desperation and chaos. The lyrics “I don't even understand the minimum morals, even for a tiger tail, twisting with heels” describe a level of moral decay that is so extreme that the singer can’t even comprehend it. The reference to a “tiger tail” is a metaphorical device to represent strength and power, which is being abused by someone who is using their heel to twist it, suggesting that they are harming something strong and powerful.
The song then takes a mysterious turn as it moves towards its core theme of loss and emptiness. The line “Soon you will be gone, only the wind will be noisy” signifies that the singer is addressing someone who is leaving them, and they will be left all alone in the wind. The emphasis on the wind creates an atmosphere of emptiness and amplifies the sense of isolation the singer feels. The chorus of the song, “A just wonderful sight” is repeated several times, raising questions and leaving a sense of unease. It could possibly be interpreted as either a sarcastic comment or alluding to a euphoric sensation.
