Their reputation for leaving people cheated or impregnated with obsession has now turned the world on it's ears. For the Plot the payoff is big; "Love in the Fascist Brothel" has that magical quality that drives people on to the stage and into the sweaty dance pit every night. That coupled with critical attention overseas and around the globe has international bands and journalists eagerly interested in all of their 2005 excursions to the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and their extensive tour of North America.
Their second-to-last release was an EP titled "INRI", on Art Fag Records.
On September 26th, 2006, The Plot announced via a Myspace bulletin that their then-current U.S tour would be the band's last before disbanding. Their final show was in their hometown of San Diego, and a posthumous release of a seven-song mini-LP entitled "Saviors & Suckers" on Three One G records was in the works, but Three One G has since said they will not be releasing the title.
Some members have formed Crocodiles.
Comeback 1968
The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The men all said
So they pulled those puppet strings
And look those hips
Are back from the dead
There's nothing like the crack of
Black black black
Leather shirt
Leather pants
Leather noose
To send those kids back
To their feeding mothers arms
Pleading for the jailhouse rock
To please just stop
The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower's song Comeback 1968 is a reflection on the idea of nostalgia and the cyclical nature of youth culture. The song begins with the assertion that "the kids still got it", suggesting that the energy and rebellious spirit of youth is still alive and well. However, the following lines reveal that it is the "men" who are pulling the strings behind the scenes, controlling and manipulating this energy for their own gain.
The lyrics then describe the return of a long-lost fashion trend, exemplified by "those hips" that are "back from the dead". The imagery of leather clothing, from the shirt to the noose, is simultaneously alluring and chilling. It suggests a dangerous and erotic rebellion, but also hints at the potential for violence and self-destruction.
Ultimately, the song leaves the listener with the sense that the youthful rebellion depicted is ultimately futile - the kids are sent back to their "feeding mothers' arms", pleading for the music to stop. This portrayal of youth culture as both powerful and ultimately powerless is a common theme in punk rock and other countercultural movements.
