Wrapped Around Your Finger
The Police Lyrics

You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the Scylla and Charibdes
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger

I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold turned into a shining band of gold

I'll be wrapped around your finger
I'll be wrapped around your finger
Mephistopheles is not your name
I know what you're up to just the same
I will listen hard to your tuition
You will see it come to its fruition
I'll be wrapped around your finger
I'll be wrapped around your finger

Devil and the deep blue sea behind me
Vanish in the air you'll never find me
I will turn your face to alabaster
When you'll find your servant is your master

You'll be wrapped around my finger
You'll be wrapped around my finger
You'll be wrapped around my finger

Stewart Copeland’s drumming is...sublime.
At 3:30, in the softer “Devil and the deep blue sea” section, and right after the next line, “Vanish in the air you’ll never find me”, Copeland brings it all back in with a single snare flam, and it’s so impeccably tasteful, so effective, so impactful in its simplicity...and so very perfect for the song, that it’s stunning.
So many other drummers would have tried to fill that space (or really wanted to) with a busy, thundering (and yawningly predictable) huge drum fill...
But Copeland? Nope.
With that one flam on the snare, he “says” more than any 20 piece kit drummer could ever hope to present by pounding out some “big” fill, and rounding half a dozen toms in a pseudo Phil Collins “In The Air Tonight” style.
Part of being a great player, particularly those that play as part of a band, is to play in ways that best serve the song, instead of serving themselves (and their own egos) with a “look how many push-ups I can do!” bragging style in their playing.
Copeland is an amazing drummer to be sure, and it’s not that he can’t play technically complex fills or drum patterns, (because he absolutely can), but...he’s also a great MUSICIAN, because he has that rare gift of playing in a way that is always so very tasteful, and with parts that always serve any song he’s playing so incredibly well.
IMO.

The Best La mejor

@Steve Sanchez I’m just curious how do you know it’s about Satan beating God.? Just asking

@Louis Magallon Yeah especially at 3:11. It’s absolute bliss and Nirvana and utopia all rolled into one. In a word orgasmic.

@SHAMIRAH YISHRAEL I do.. :)
I've understood what it meant since it was a new song. Cheers and blessed be. 💜

@Steve Sanchez I'm not sure where you got such a notion but it's complete nonsense. If that BS has been in your head since the 80's then I feel for you. The songs lyrics, and the act of knocking down the candles after the incantation "devil on the deep blue sea behind me, vanish in the air you'll never find me..." And so on , is indeed a spell ritual. But has nothing to do with the "devil defeating God". Where did you get that?
It's a spell to use after selling your soul to the devil...So that he will not be able to find it when the payment comes due. And in the meantime the devil must do ones bidding.
It's from the black book of spells.
Seriously, where did you get such a notion that you stated? That's so wrong.
