In early 1985, the group appeared on Saturday Night Live, where they performed both of their rockin' singles. The band decided to capitalize on their success with a summer tour of the United States. However, Robert Palmer used this success to record a solo album, 'Riptide', which featured its own hit singles and incorporated a similar dance-ready rock style. As a result, Palmer left The Power Station and did not tour with the band. Later on, this split, with some members of Palmer's ex-group saying that Palmer took their "sound", led to public expressions of personal animosity.
Taking in Michael Des Barres, an actor and vocalist formely with Silverhead and Detective, the Power Station underwent highly popular tours. On July 13, 1985, the group performed at Live Aid, with Michael Des Barres' singing receiving praise. Later that year, the band appeared on an episode of Miami Vice, which was entitled "Whatever Works".
In 1996, the original band reformed to write and record "Living In Fear". This time, it was bass player John Taylor who left the group before "Living In Fear" was released. He was replaced by producer Bernard Edwards, former bass player with Chic. The band was preparing to tour when Edwards died suddenly of pneumonia. The band toured briefly with replacement bassists before splitting up again 1996
On September 26, 2003, Robert Palmer died of a massive heart attack. Less than two months later, drummer Tony Thompson died of renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer). Of the original group, only John Taylor and Andy Taylor survive.
The Power Station's music is still performed occasionally by Duran Duran. The band played "Some Like It Hot" on their 1987 "Strange Behaviour Tour" as well as while on tour in 2006. They also performed "Bang A Gong" during their 1989 tour. The Power Station's music also receives considerable airplay on many classic rock oriented stations.

And a nasty 2 & 4, she can rock it
She can tap in 32
She can show you her tattoo - she can rock it
What good's a rock without a roll?
It's a sorry lookin' donut if it doesn't have a hole
She gets so hot, she's infra-red
She's got kisses like cocaine
She's got access to a plane - she can rock it
Check out her anatomy
In her trashy lingerie - she can rock it
She's got an axe, she's got a rig
You know she'll never miss a beat-
And she ain't never missed a gig
She'll pin you down, she'll knock you out
She can wrestle with your ego
'Til your pride goes out
She can rock it
She's a shake that comes with fries
Never listens to your lies - she can rock it
She can set your pants on fire
She can strip you to the wire - she can rock it
She can nail you to a frame
Say that you're the one to blame - she can rock it
She can tell you what to wear
She can strip your conscience bare
She can rock it
The Power Station's song "She Can Rock It" is a tribute to the power of women in the world of rock and roll. The lyrics describe a woman who is confident in her abilities and knows how to rock out. The first verse talks about her power chords and her ability to not only play guitar but to also tap dance in 32. The lyrics suggest that this woman is not just a typical rock and roll performer, she is versatile and can do it all. She even has a tattoo to show off and isn't afraid to flaunt it.
The chorus emphasizes the importance of having both a rock and roll balance. The lyrics suggest that without the roll, the rock is meaningless. This woman is the full package and not just a one-trick pony. She is the kind of performer that can keep an audience engaged and on their feet all night long. The second verse talks about her sexuality and how her kisses are like cocaine, she has access to a plane, and her lingerie is trashy but sultry. It is clear that she knows how to use her sex appeal to her advantage on stage.
The final verse describes her as a woman who can handle anything life throws at her. She's got an axe (guitar), a rig (amp setup), and has never missed a beat. She's tough and can even wrestle with your ego until your pride goes out. The song ends with the chorus once again emphasizing that she can rock it, and doing so in a way that any man cannot.
