1. The Prayer Chain was a 1990s Christian alternative rock band. The band has been called "the epitome of the Christian underground".
Their first album was recorded with Steve Hindalong at Neverland Studios and was entitled The Neverland Sessions. This was their first release, independent. After signing to Reunion Records they put out The Whirlpool EP and started touring, while focusing on their first LP Shawl released in 1993. After extensive national and international shows they started working on Mercury, which was released in 1995. This album, which engineer Chris Colbert has described by saying, "you can hear the band break up on the record, you can see them extend a warm and heartfelt middle finger to the industry" was their last CD, not to mention some rarities following. The band did a reunion show in Chicago in 1998, then the Gene Eugene tribute show in 2000, but other than some local California shows and their 2003 reunion shows at Cornerstone Festival and the Flevo Festival in The Netherlands, they are finished.

Never Enough
The Prayer Chain Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
oh yes, I can feel it
the blood of the redeemer
only it's still my
heart beating
yes, it's still beating
beating me
the blood of the healer
I prayed for it
oh yes, I've prayed for it
the blood of the redeemer
on my face
down on my knees
forgive the thief
next to me
the blood of the healer
is never enough
Screwtape smiles
tries my trials
the blood of the redeemer
washes it away
The rains begin to fall
as I crawl
to the blood of the healer
fall on me
the blood of the healer
The lyrics of The Prayer Chain’s ‘Never Enough’ express a deep yearning for redemption and forgiveness. The singer acknowledges his imperfections and sinful nature and hopes for the cleansing power of Christ’s blood. He describes how he can feel the blood of the redeemer flowing through him, yet his heart still beats with his flawed human nature. The prayer for redemption is intensified by the image of the thief on the cross next to Jesus, who was forgiven by him. The singer recognizes that the blood of the healer is not merely a physical substance but a symbol of miraculous healing power that washes away the pain and the trials of life. The rain serves as an additional metaphor that signifies the cleansing nature of the blood of the healer.
The song derives its overarching theme from the Christian belief in the power of Christ's blood to redeem humanity from sin. The use of imagery resonates with this theme and reinforces the message. The lyrics also express a sense of humility and surrender in front of a higher power, relinquishing control over one’s life to a divine plan. In summary, the song is a passionate plea for forgiveness and redemption through the power of Christ’s blood.
