Girl
The Presets Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tonight the
Tonight the hills are watching her as she runs towards the sea
Yeah, she runs so she'll be free
And of all the friends and enemies she's made along the way
They are nowhere in her thoughts as she dives beneath the waves

And he's the one that you've seen sometimes on TV
And his shirt is on the ground while he's tackled by police
And the parcel that he throws across the bridge into the creek
It'll flow towards the sea, it will meet with her tomorrow

No place, sometime
We'll clear our eyes
And when, you're down
I'll come around

And all, the places that she's been along the way
Flames are licking at their walls, night glows with their remains
And from far away the animals come gather round to see
But she knows not how they feel and she knows not what it means

When she was young we'd ask her what she'd like to be
And she'd close her eyes and dream
Now we're nowhere in her thoughts as she dives beneath the waves

A place, I've found
Could be, all ours

I've seen, where you
Would rather be

Overall Meaning

The Presets' "Girl And The Sea" is a dark, haunting, and introspective song that delves into themes of isolation, escapism, and the fleeting nature of life. The song is narrated from the perspective of an observer who watches a girl being chased by her demons and ultimately finding solace in the sea. The opening lines of the song, "Tonight the hills are watching her as she runs towards the sea, Yeah, she runs so she'll be free", sets the tone for the rest of the song as it highlights the girl's desire to be unshackled from the burdens of her life.

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the girl is not without issues, and she has made several friends and enemies along the way, but in this moment, she does not think of them as she plunges into the water. The lyrics "And all the places that she's been along the way, Flames are licking at their walls, night glows with their remains" suggest that her past has been fraught with difficulties, and she may be trying to escape them by running towards the sea.

The song takes a darker turn when it introduces a male character who has thrown a parcel into the creek, and it is destined to meet the girl in the sea. The lyrics "And the parcel that he throws across the bridge into the creek, It'll flow towards the sea, it will meet with her tomorrow" add a layer of mystery and intrigue to the song. The song ends on a hopeful yet cryptic note, with the singer hinting at the possibility of a brighter future, stating "A place, I've found, Could be all ours, I've seen where you would rather be."

When I watch this I think the mermaids pregnant, so wolf let her go.

Incase he ate her and the babies

the wolf also let her go because he knew if she tried to be a wolf like him she would die and the babies perhaps

But by letting her go they had a chance.

And no chance the wolf would hurt them himself or other wolves worse than him

Compared to a wolf

The mermaid is free

The next unwritten love song song is where now she is drowning and

There's larger enemies than a wolf

Surrounding the mermaid and her family

And hes got stronger and her weakerr from raising his young

They need him to come back and show his teeth.
Protect their offspring.

And she sings a siren song

And he hears it.

And theres another album that could be written where theres a truce

So they can simply fight a bigger enemy than just one wolf to protect their
Babies.

Sunshine

Returns

Protects them.

For anyone who doesn't know this music video is a homage to the 1979 Russian animated film "Tale of Tales". It is widely considered the greatest animated film of all time. Was super excited to see the presets use this film as their inspiration.
