The band released their self-titled first album in March 1995 via PopLlama Records. After they garnered massive acclaim, Columbia Records quickly signed them. The album peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 and has shipped over three million copies. The RIAA has certified it as triple platinum. Songs "Peaches", "Kitty", "Lump", and "Dune Buggy" received major airplay.
Their 1996 follow-up album, "II", did not reach the same acclaim, though it reached the top forty on the Billboard 2000. Single "Mach 5" also garnered some airplay. The band then fell of the radar for many listeners, dropped by their major label. However, their albums of the new millennium, 'Freaked Out and Small' followed by 'Love Everybody' and 'These Are the Good Times People' (released in 2000, 2004, and 2008, respectively), picked up positive critical reviews, such as from the All Music Guide. Although their touring schedule became more sporadic into the 00s and 10s, they continue to perform and satisfy audiences with their off-beat humor and catchy hooks.

The Presidents of the United States of America Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There is a big bad boomin' system
Blowin' speakers, woofers and tweeters
Amplifiers, melted wires
The parties exploded, the core is corroded
Underground of Puget Sound
'Causin' a shiftin', and a driftin'
Big black boom box, stuck in the hot rocks
You don't believe me, that this scenery
Could be a cold blooded killer
It's gonna blow, volcano
It's gonna blow, volcano
It's gonna blow, (volcano), go
Now the island is shiftin', plates are liftin'
The core is creamy, docile and dreamy
Stopped up and steamy
Happy campers, poop in their Pampers
When the mountain becomes a fountain
Of white hot lava, molten magma
Super sonic, plate tectonics
Stereophonic, lava and tonic
The boom is bionic
Sony shut down, Magnavox meltdown
Ballistic breakdown
Hi-fi heatwave, lo-fi lava cave
That sulfur smells is Mount St. Helens
Pompeii was yellin'
It's gonna blow, volcano
It's gonna blow, volcano
It's gonna blow, volcano
It's gonna blow, (volcano), go
The song "Volcano" by The Presidents of the United States of America is a quirky and humorous take on the idea of a volcano erupting. The lyrics suggest that a big, loud sound system is buried underground, causing a shift in the island and leading to the eruption of the volcano. The use of exaggerated language and playful lyrics creates a fun and entertaining atmosphere, despite the potential danger associated with a volcanic eruption.
The lyrics also reference historical volcanic eruptions, such as Pompeii and Mount St. Helens, further emphasizing the destructive power of volcanoes. The use of colloquial language, such as "poop in their Pampers" and "lava and tonic," adds to the playful tone of the song.
Overall, "Volcano" is a witty and unique song that mixes humorous lyrics with references to real-life events and scientific concepts.
