Run Home
The Priestess Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I fell for the company girl
And it leaves me in charge
She don't pay what the salary will
And no company car
And it hurts when it pounds along with this heartbeat
Well its taking its toll, but it won't for very long

I'll run home, I'm gone

Back to the factory wheel
Believe me I'm in charge
I fell back on a factory girl
But they take me apart
And it hurts when they pound along with this heartbeat
And if I leave it this way, then it won't be there at all

I'm back to the factory wheel
And it keeps me coming home

It takes me apart
And it hurts when it pounds with this heart, so ill run home, I'm gone

Overall Meaning

The Priestess's song Run Home explores the idea of being caught up in a corporate world and the consequences that come with it. The lyrics speak of falling for a company girl, someone associated with the business or corporation, but realizing that the relationship is not fulfilling. The singer is left in charge, but there are no real benefits as the company girl does not pay what the salary will and there is no company car. The singer recognizes that being involved with the business world is taking a toll on their well-being, but they will not be in this position for very long.

The phrase "I'll run home, I'm gone" speaks to the desire to leave the corporate world and return to a simpler life. The singer will go back to the factory wheel, where they believe they are in charge, but in reality, they are still being controlled by the system. The factory girl takes them apart, and the pounding of the machinery matches their heartbeat, causing pain. However, the singer believes that if they continue in this way, they will be left with nothing. The only option is to run home and escape the complexities of the corporate world.

Priestess is a fantastic band with great songs. My favorites are Blood, Home Run, Talk To Her and Lay Down. The rock is all about, is in the blood. Rock till eternity!

Wow I noticed your comment is from 13yrs ago bringing us back to 2007 when I was 30yrs old geez time flys! I seen these kats at the London Music Hall with Skeletonwitch & High On Fire which were all equally as great & full of electric power! High On Fire frontman Matt Pike had a bad cold & his voice was really raspy more than usual lol but it didn’t stop him from not wearing a t-shirt lol!! Great Canadian band!! Priestess has been on quite the hiatus which sucks because they are so talented & write killer music!

God Priestess is good. The entire CD is this listenable. None of that "two good songs then 10 of filler" crap. Plus they've got a sort of vintage sound to them which is not terribly common these days.
