The Firebird
The Priestess Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Keep your voices quiet
Ears are all around
If we hide each other
No one will be found

I can hear them talking
Lie against the ground
It's almost over
Just don't make a sound

Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise

Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise

High up in the tower
Chained and bolted down
Looking through the window
Her eyes are on me now

I can't escape it
I can't make a sound

Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise

Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise

Fly the vulture hunter
Scourge upon the town
On wings of thunder
Bolting through the clouds
Be drawn together
Lightning strikes the ground

Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise

Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise

Morning
Waiting for the sun to rise

Waiting for the morning
Waiting for the sun to rise

Overall Meaning

The song "The Firebird" by The Priestess tells a story of fear, hiding, and waiting for the dawn. The first verse urges the listener to be quiet because ears are everywhere. By hiding together, there's hope that nobody will be found. The second verse depicts a person lying on the ground and listening intently to the conversations happening above. The fear of being heard is palpable, and the only hope is to stay silent. The chorus repeats the idea of waiting for the dawn, waiting for the sun to rise, as if it will bring safety, protection, and a way out of hiding.

The third verse takes us high up in the tower, where someone is chained and bolted down. They are looking through the window, and the fear that someone might be watching them is almost unbearable. They can't escape and can't make a sound, and the only way out is to wait for the dawn. The final verse changes the mood from fear to action, as a vulture hunter appears to bring justice to the town. The image of lightning striking the ground is powerful, and it implies that something is about to happen, something that may change the fate of the people hiding in fear. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the idea of waiting for the new day to bring hope and light.

A shame these guys are on hiatus. Their brand of rock is a little bit old school, but with kind of an original twist. Rock music is in sad shape these days and needs more bands like this: something that takes what's made metal great but isn't afraid to do its own thing. I believe RCA had a dispute over this album, and that it wasn't "marketable" enough. Well, that's the thing about true rock and metal. They don't worry about what'll be popular and marketable. They worry about doing what they want and say eff off to anyone who doesn't. Without that sort of attitude you stop being metal and start being Maroon 5.

From a old rockers view we need more of this. My go-to bands are shopping Rodeo Drive instead of knocking it out of the park like this! Still listening in 2021

I saw these guys play live before I had ever heard their music. After the first few songs... I was blown the fuck away! Been listening ever since. Wish they had made at least one more album. Deep down (though I highly doubt it), I'm hoping they'd go on tour once more!

Greenblood638

they are going to be one of the greatest band, just like the 80's bands !

Got to see these guys and Black Cobra open for High on Fire years ago in Columbus Oh. It was a heavy show to say the least.
