Someone Else
The Prize Fight Lyrics

Then hide your face away
I know just what you're thinking
What you want me to say
If I could just get a hold on you
These games we play
Are too much to handle everyday
But when will this end
The pins and needles
Are starting to prick just a little too deep
I'm not the best for you but
Since when is this a test
I'll prove myself to you
So put your judgments on the shelf
Tear your defenses down and let me through
I'm waiting longer
By idly, so patiently
I'm growing stronger
Into what you don't want me to be
You're starting to prick just a little too deep
The lyrics of The Prize Fight's song Someone Else suggest a complicated romantic relationship where the singer is trying to reach out to their partner. The first verse talks about the partner's behavior - giving a look and then hiding their face away, making it difficult for the singer to understand what they want to say. The second verse highlights the 'games' they play that are becoming too much to handle. However, the singer resolves not to let them get to them. Interestingly, in the chorus, the singer admits that they are not the best for their partner, but they want to prove themselves and show their commitment. They ask their partner to let their defenses down and give them a chance.
The bridge of the song reveals a sense of uncertainty, with the singer waiting idly, patiently, growing stronger into something their partner may not want them to be. The final line, 'You're starting to prick just a little too deep,' implies that it is hurting the singer's feelings that their partner is not communicating with them openly and honestly, despite their efforts.
Overall, the song portrays a story of a complicated romantic relationship where one partner is trying to break through but is met with resistance by the other. The lyrics reveal a longing for emotional connection and honesty, despite the challenges.
