The Producers [Original Broadway Cast] Lyrics

[Bialystock]Don't you see Bloom, darling Bloom, glorious Bloom, it's so simple!

Step One! We find the worst play ever written,
Step Two! We hire the worst director in town,
Step Three! I raise two million dollars.
[Bloom] Two?
[Bialystock] Yes, two! One for me, one for you, there's a lot of little old ladies out there...
Step Four! We hire the worst actors in New York and open on Broadway!
And before you can say step five, we close on Broadway, take our two million and go to Rio!
[Bloom] Rio?! Ah, it'll never work...
[Bialystock] Oh ye of little faith!

[Bialystock]
What did Lewis say to Clark when everything looked bleak?
What did Sir Edmund say to Tenzing as they struggled toward Everest peak?
What did Washington say to his troops as they crossed the Delaware? I'm sure you're well aware!
[Bloom]What'd they say?

[Bialystock]We. Can. Do it.
We can do it,
We can do it, me and you
We can do it,
We can do it,
We can make our dreams come true.
Everything you've ever wanted, is just waiting to be had,
Beautiful girls wearing nothing but pearls,
Carressing you, undressing you and driving you mad.

[Bloom] No!
[Bialystock] Bloom! Bloom, wait a minute now... Hear me out, just think about it!

[Bialystock]
We can do it,
We can do it,
This is not the time to shirk!
We can do it,
You won't rue it,
Say goodbye to petty clerk.
Hi Producer,
Yes, Producer,
I mean you sir go berserk!
We can do it,
We can do it,
And I know it's gonna work!
[Bialystock] Whadaya say, Bloom?

[Bloom]
What do I say, finally a chance to be a Broadway producer,
What do I say, finally a chance to make my dreams come true sir,
What do I say,
What do I say?
Here's what I say to you, sir!

[Bloom]
I can't do it,
I can't do it,
I can't do it, that's not me,
I'm a loser,
I'm a coward,
I'm a chicken, don't you see?
When it comes to wooing women,
There's a few things that I lack.
Beautiful girls, wearing nothing but pearls,
Chasing me, embracing me, I'd have an attack!

[Bialystock] Why you miserable, cowardly wretched little caterpillar!
Don't you ever want to become a butterfly?
Don't you want to spread your wings and flap your way to glory?
[Bloom] No!

[Bialystock - Melody]
We can do it,
We can do it,
We can grab that holy grail,
We can do it,
We can do it,
Drink champagne, not ginger ale!
Come on Leo, Don't you see-o...

[Bloom - Harmony]
Mr. Bialystock,
Please stop this song you've got me wrong,
I'll say so long - I'm not as strong a person as you think.
Mr Bialystock,
Please take a look, I'm not a crook,
I'm just a schmuck, the bottom line is that,
I say!
I can't do it...

[End harmony]
[Bloom]
You see Rio, I see jail!

[Bloom] Driver stop! Here!

[Bialystock]
We can do it!
[Bloom]
I can't do it!

[Bialystock]
We can do it!
[Bloom]
I can't do it!

[Bialystock]
We can do it!
[Bloom]
I can't do it!

[Bialystock]
We can do it!
[Bloom]
I can't do it!

[Bialystock]
We can...
[Bloom]
I cannot, cannot, cannot, cannot, cannot, cannot do it,
'cos I know, it's gonna fail.

[Bialystock] Fail? How can it miss, all you need is a little courage! Bloom, don't you realise there's a lot more to you than there is to you?

Overall Meaning

The song "We Can Do It" from the musical "The Producers" is a conversation between two characters, Bialystock and Bloom. Bialystock proposes a plan to produce the worst play ever written, hire the worst director and actors, and raise two million dollars. His plan is to open the play on Broadway and close it immediately, taking the two million dollars and fleeing to Rio. Bloom is hesitant at first, but Bialystock convinces him by singing the title phrase repeatedly.

The song explores themes of ambition, risk-taking, and self-doubt. Bialystock is an ambitious and cunning character who sees the potential profit in a failed production. Meanwhile, Bloom is a more reserved and risk-averse character who initially resists Bialystock's plan. However, the repetition of "We can do it" encourages Bloom to take a chance and pursue his dream of becoming a Broadway producer.

The Musical Lover

I’ve read somewhere that he actually did try to record the songs for Lion King, but for some reason the style did not fit his voice. Not sure if that’s true...?
Tbh fit his voice or not, I wish to hear his version of Can you feel the love tonight at least lol.

Liv

i may be wrong but i’m pretty sure it was because he wasn’t comfortable with singing around the time of the lion king?

I'm gonna say it: best movie musical remake ever. the instrumentals that were created to fill the space between Sardi's and the cab, the reworking of the ending especially -- the only musical changes for a movie that ENHANCE IT. Maybe Chicago is the exception. K bye no one will read this lol

Meh

I read this lol

I hate that people don't like this film, I love it so much
