I'll Follow the Sun
The Quarrymen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One day you'll look to see I've gone
For tomorrow may rain
So I'll follow the sun

Some day you'll know I was the one
But tomorrow may rain
So I'll follow the sun
And now the time has come
And so, my love, I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you will know, oh

One day you'll find that I have gone
But tomorrow may rain
So I'll follow the sun

Tomorrow may rain
So I'll follow the sun

And now the time has come
And so, my love, I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you will know, oh

One day you'll find that I have gone

But tomorrow may rain
So I'll follow the sun

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Quarrymen's song, "I'll Follow the Sun" depict a person leaving their loved ones behind and heading towards the sun, despite the uncertainty of what lies ahead. The song seems to be a farewell message to his loved ones, in which he is saying that even though he is leaving, he will follow the sun, and whatever happens, he hopes that his loved ones will understand why he left.

The lyrics of the song may be interpreted as the idea of seizing opportunities when they arise, and not letting the future uncertainties hold you back. Tomorrow always holds promises, both good and bad, but one should not be afraid to embrace the good moments and the opportunities that could lead to personal growth and happiness.

Overall, the song serves as a gentle reminder that we need to make the most of the time we have, appreciate the present, and be prepared to face the challenges and uncertainties that the future might hold.

One of my favourite songs and I like both version. Never had listened to this version before but it’s very 50’s.

@generalkrow

i feel like this would have worked perfectly as a reprise version in the context of the album

Great historic recoding of this song in the early stages , makes me feel kind of validated because in 1980 I got a recording in a basement of a bakery with my friend of some Beatles tunes and some originals and it has the same quality/ feeling of being rustic years later I got my own carrier in music inspired by the Beatles.

@joeramirez709

One of my all time favorite songs by the Beatles. But not this version. Interesting to see and hear the transformation of the song.
