Growing up in Shelton, Connecticut, frontman Coley O'Toole cited the rock music of Neil Young, Elton John, Supertramp, and the Doors along with the energy of the mid- to late-1990s Connecticut music scene as having a great influence on him.
In 2006, after a decade of playing in various projects based in Connecticut, O'Toole formed the Queen Killing Kings with drummer Jon Scerbo. The duo was met with praise in the local venues and media.
With performances in Los Angeles and New York City, the band's initial success was extended beyond the local area, gaining them industry attention. After entering the Manhattan's Pyramid Studios to record what would become their debut album, former Hot Rod Circuit member and O'Toole's childhood friend Joe Ballaro joined the band on bass. Scerbo left the band early in the recording process, prompting O'Toole to bring in former Hot Rod Circuit drummer Dan Duggins. After signing to Wind-up Records, Zac Clark joined to play Fender Rhodes and organ, making the band a quartet.
The band's debut album, Tidal Eyes, was released digitally by Wind-up Records on July 14, 2009.[1]

The Queen Killing Kings Lyrics

I filled my closet full of bones
All parts of skeletons since turned to ghosts
And I wear them underneath my clothes
Chorus:
And darling promise me that you won’t close your eyes
Take my hand I’ll lead you through this night
In a place where you and I are safe
And somewhere, someway
I traced my shadow on the street
To find that body wasn’t me
And I wondered who could this impostor be
And somewhere, someway we will meet
[Chorus]
The Queen Killing Kings's song "This Night" is a hauntingly beautiful ballad that tells the story of someone who has collected bones and turned them into ghosts, which they wear underneath their clothes. The opening lines of the song suggest that the singer is about to reveal a secret they have been keeping from their lover. The metaphorical closet full of bones represents the skeletons in their past and the ghosts they carry with them.
The chorus is a call for the lover to keep their eyes open, to trust the singer and take their hand, as they navigate through the unknown. The idea of leading someone through the night suggests a journey through the dark or uncertain times. The promise of a safe place where the lovers can meet again shows that the singer believes that despite the ghosts they both carry, they will find a place where they can be together.
The imagery in the second verse is equally mysterious, as the singer traces their shadow on the street to find that their body is not their own. This could be interpreted as a disconnect between their body and their sense of self, or a general feeling of confusion about their identity. However, the belief that they will someday meet again is a source of comfort and hope.
Overall, "This Night" is a poignant and poetic song that uses vivid imagery to explore themes of love, loss, and the struggle to find oneself.
