1) Mighty Heavy rock, with Bluesy "Stoner" influences.

The Quill was formed in the early -90s in Sweden.

The original Lineup was formed by singer Magnus Ekwall, guitarist Christian Carlsson, drummer George Atlagic, Anders Haglund on Keyboard/Hammond and original bassist Peter Holm.
The lineup has changed a few times over the years with new bassplayers, and since 1997 Anders decided to leave. From that point the band have been a foursome and the current bassplayer is Robert Triches.

In their sound, which could be described as a modern 70's, one can find influences of bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin

Touring has been a major thing for The Quill. From playing a number of festivals in Sweden and all over Europe. Some of the highlights has been playing at Sweden Rock Festival, several times, where The Quill played together with bands like Deep Purple, Motorhead, Captain Beyond, Whitesnake and Dio. They have also toured Europe as opening act to Monster Magnet and Glucifer.

2) Quill was also a kind of pyschedelic American band in the late sixties. The were best known for having performed at the original Woodstock festival.

3) There is also a fast hardcore band from Japan named Quill (not The Quill, but they scrobble here regardless), who have been active since the early-to-mid '90s. Noted for the split album with hardcore punk band Charles Bronson.

Great content. I've yet to watch one of your videos that I don't pick up something and I've been tying for 50 years. I'm a little red-faced that I did not figure out cutting the wing quills at different lengths. That creates a perfect, delicate quill body taper. Also, I've never used the two-toned wings. . . just seems cool. Going back a ways with quills, I was taught to strip them and run them through a bit of vaseline or hand lotion. Down side is, for subsurface flies, it makes them artificially bouyant. Thanks again for the tips, tricks, and walk down memory lane.

For those that say you talk too much they either know everything you're saying, or think they do, or they're not listening. You talk a lot because you provide a lot of education, I don't know if there's any other way of doing it. I took one of your old CDs and put it under my pillow and it didn't help so please keep talking, it makes me better educated. Keep the good stuff coming Kelly.

Kelly you are the bomb! I mean that in a good way. They are actually making synthetic quills now out of plastic that are mainly used for perdigon style flies. A fly called a quilldigon uses them. I prefer to use the natural polish quills myself but that's just me. Tight lines. Oh ya your in Montana that goes without saying.

Hello Kelly,
I'd like to know what kind of magnifying glasses you use. Sorry for the way I wrote to you. But I am a French Canadian. I follow you every video you produce on your channel. I use a magnifying lamp to make my little flies. But I find it quite difficult to keep the focus. Can you tell me if it's easier with magnifying glasses. Thank you

Why did fly fishing in Ireland. Just sort of 'disappear' all of a shot? Well, really. Because it was 'out of step'. With Great Britain. That is why. It was fly fishing for 'wild' trout. As opposed to stocked trout. And no one in Britain who holiday-ed in Ireland. Wanted to invest the time. To develop systems and techniques of fishing for wild fish. In wild natural environments any longer. It was the very much shrinking part. Of the fly fishing industry pie. And it died. As the anglers gradually did. Who used those systems. And were not replaced. To an extent now. That you will find no anglers there. On miles and miles of water. For major parts of the year. It became just too hard. To re-learn the ways. In order to fish for wild fish. When anglers in Britain. Had given that kind of thing away.

I can tell anyone. I have fished from the top west coast of Ireland. To the bottom. And it was all wild trout and salmon. From top to bottom. And still is. The difference though? There are no anglers. No fishermen there. Not any longer. It's not like in America. Where fly fishing is a big industry. All of the anglers that I knew growing up. They're all gone now. And no one really replaces them. The English stopped coming here too. A long time ago. It is the same on the saltwater side of it. Nothing much. And no one in Ireland. I can guarantee. Has even heard of a trout streamer fly. Which is kind of weird. Because you go back one hundred years. And it was fly fishing central. Things change, and times do too.

But you can see. How that changed again. For the British competition anglers. When they started to compete. In the international scene. They could get thrown into north America. Fishing for wild browns. Or New Zealand. Or Argentina. And they had to go back. And re-learn many of the techniques of fishing for wild fish again. That they had originally invented themselves. And lost. That is why Argentina is interesting. You will still find anglers alive there. Who remember all of the techniques, systems and fly patterns. That were used by Joe Brooks. When he revolutionized their fly fishing sport there. In the fifties decade (again, which was the exact time at which British anglers were all learning to fish on reservoirs for 'non wild' stocks of trout).

In fact, competitive angling was very much a feature of it. In Britain, once you moved from a 'stocking' system. Away from a wild trout resource. People quickly started to count weight and numbers. And an approach to fly fishing came about. Where anglers would learn. How to carry several fly lines with them. So that they could change quickly in the situation. To targeting of different 'depths' of water. And change quickly from fishing surface dry. To going just underneath the surface (this is where things like 'intermediary' fly lines came from). And that is where the first 'lead core' fly lines. Came from too. Anglers went away from being. Just 'presentation' fly anglers. To being fly casters. Who depended rather heavily. On the fly line as a tool. To get the job done.

What Lucas was trying to optimize. Was not the 'casting' distance and skill itself. It was the amount of time. The fly was fishing in the water. In the same way as in the French nymph method. That the nymph was able to approach the fish. From a long distance away. And drift in a natural manner. So that the fish was not alarmed by this fly. That it could see was coming. From a long way away. That is what Lucas. Was looking to do. For the dry fly system of fishing too. Anglers fishing for stocked rainbows and browns. In post war Britain in the twentieth century. Quickly realized, that non-wild fish. Were not as selective. As the fish they had known growing up. They learned how to optimize in fishing style. In different ways. And the casting technique. Was very much a part of that.
