The Christmas Song
The Ramsey Lewis Trio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.
And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you!
The Ramsey Lewis Trio's The Christmas Song is a timeless classic that captures the essence of the holiday season. The lyrics transport the audience into a warm, cozy atmosphere where chestnuts are being roasted, and Jack Frost is nipping at their noses. The Christmas carols sung by the choir and people dressed like Eskimos complete the idyllic image of wintertime jolliness. The song then emphasizes that turkey and mistletoe go a long way in making the holiday season bright. The joy on the faces of young children, whose eyes are "all aglow," adds to the charm of the festive moments. However, they might find it hard to sleep as they anticipate the arrival of Santa Claus with his sleigh brimming with toys and good cheer. The idea of children spying to see if reindeer genuinely know how to fly adds to the childlike innocence of the season. The song concludes with a straightforward, yet heartwarming, seasonal message of wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, regardless of their age or social status.
