Ten Black Roses
The Rasmus Lyrics

Try to sail, You can't with no air
Day by day it only gets harder
Try to scream but nobody cares
Through the glass you see the same faces
Hear the voices play fade a drum
When your life's a boat in a bottle
Don't leave me now
Stay another day
With me
[Chorus:]
When you're sad, and no one knows it
I'll send you black roses
When your heart's dark and frozen
I'll send you black roses
Far away we wait for each other
I'm still on that road to nowhere
Kiss yourself for me in the mirror
Tie a black rose into your hair
Don't lose your faith
Share another night
With me
[Chorus]
Ten black roses
Ten black roses
Life is like a boat in the bottle
Try to sail, you can't with no air
Day by day it only gets harder
Try to scream but nobody cares
[Chorus]
Ten black roses
Ten black roses
In The Rasmus's song Ten Black Roses, the lyrics illustrate the feeling of being trapped and alone while surrounded by people who don't seem to understand or care about one's struggles. The metaphor of life being like a boat in a bottle further emphasizes this feeling of confinement and being unable to break free. The line "try to sail, you can't with no air" suggests that life can feel suffocating and impossible to navigate, no matter how hard one tries.
The chorus offers a glimmer of hope in the form of black roses. The singer promises to send these roses to someone who is sad and feels alone to show that they are not completely isolated. The repetition of "ten black roses" throughout the song emphasizes the importance of this gesture and perhaps suggests that the number of roses represents the magnitude of the singer's support.
The bridge of the song shifts to a more personal message as the singer pleads with their loved one to stay with them and not lose faith. They express a desire to share more time together despite the struggles they are facing.
