The Lonesome Road
The Rat Pack Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Look down, look down that lonesome road
Before you travel on.

Look down, look down that lonesome road
Before you travel on.
Look up, look up and greet your maker,
For Gabriel blows his horn.
Weary, totin' such a load,
Travelin' down that lonesome road,
Look down, look down that lonesome road
Before you travel on.

Weary totin', it's such a load,
Whike I'm travelin' down, travelin' down that lonesome old road,

Look down, look down that lonesome road
Before you travel on.

Overall Meaning

The Rat Pack's song Lonesome Road is a powerful and deeply emotional ballad about a journey through life, with all its trials and tribulations, joys and sorrows. The opening lines, "Look down, look down that lonesome road, before you travel on," warn the listener to take a moment to reflect on their path before continuing forward. This is a recurring theme throughout the song, as the singer implores the listener to be mindful of the challenges ahead, and to seek help and guidance from a higher power.

The line "Look up, look up and greet your maker, for Gabriel blows his horn," is a clear reference to the biblical story of the archangel Gabriel, who is said to blow his horn to announce the end of the world. This serves as a reminder that our time on earth is fleeting, and that we should use it wisely.

The reference to being "weary, totin' such a load" is a poignant reminder of the hardships we all face in life, and the importance of staying strong and persevering in the face of adversity. The repetition of the phrase "travelin' down that lonesome road" reinforces the idea of a long and difficult journey, but also suggests that we are not alone in our struggles.

Overall, The Rat Pack's Lonesome Road is a deeply moving and insightful song that reminds us of the importance of reflection, perseverance, and faith, even in the face of life's greatest challenges.

@XxMeanDroxX Mate, I actually hope they release more music, such as this actually. Lovely stuff, really. Bloody brilliant music such as this would go perfectly with Fallout: New Vegas' newest upcoming DLC "The Lonesome Road", it syncs in perfectly with the theme of the story. I can't wait for it personally.

The Beefy Rider

It's a video game that incorporates a lot of good music.

This is to clear up some confusion mambowe might have over what the comments are about. There is a game called Fallout: New Vegas that is set in a 60's style post apocalyptic wasteland. There is a new addition to the game coming out that is named after this song. You have to love how many people (including me) it has introduced to this great generation of music!

Descendant of Kraff

This is perfect for the next DLC! Lonesome Road

By the way, i haven't seen any " I'm a 12 years old boy who played a video game which have 50' music in it. And realized that old music is actually better than all the crap of today. Now i feel so much better and superior than other people of my ages cause i'm young and know how to listen to some old music." lately ?

Lonnie Johnson does the definitive version

I'm here BOTH for enjoying the music AND praising the game. Seriously, this song doesn't even appear in the game, it's just have the same name as the DLC. One day, i was just looking for a vid bout the DLC and stumbled on and fell in love with the song.
