The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.
“Ode To L.A.”
The Raveonettes Lyrics

I want a slice of L.A. sun
Whoa ho ho ho
Honey let's go
(Feels like you never have to)
Honey let's go
(Come down you don't really want to)
(Stay out is all you need to)
Honey let's go
(Go to sleep you don't really want to)
So come along and pay the price
This ain't New York this tasty slice
Whoa ho ho ho
Take a minute listen to this town
Don't you ever feel you have to come
Take a minute she won't let you down
See you excited in her arms
L.A. and all her crazy charms
Whoa ho ho oh
The Raveonettes’s Ode to L.A. is a song about the allure of Los Angeles and its chaotic yet exciting lifestyle. The song starts with an invitation to go to where the fun is and soak up the L.A. sun. The tone of the lyrics is playful and light, with the use of the phrase "whoa ho ho ho" emphasizing the sense of enjoyment that can be found in the city. The second verse focuses on the idea that L.A. is unlike New York and that it has its own unique charm that is worth experiencing.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "honey let's go" several times. The repetition of this phrase suggests a sense of urgency and excitement about the idea of going to L.A. The lyrics in the bridge of the song further emphasize the idea that L.A. is worth experiencing, and that it won't let you down. The use of the word "crazy" to describe L.A.'s charms suggests that the city is full of unexpected and exciting experiences.
Overall, The Raveonettes's Ode to L.A. is a celebration of the excitement and energy that can be found in the city. The lyrics paint a picture of a vibrant and dynamic place that captures the spirit of anyone who experiences it.
