The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.

Thunder in the sky
The shades are drawn
Don't ask me why
But with the ghost riders on the go
I think you know
But with the ghost riders on the go
It goes something like this
Crater in my brain
Where the strippers go insane
Cabin number four
Ain't gonna smile no more
But with the ghost riders on the go
I think you know
But with the ghost riders on the go
I think you know
It goes something like this
Attack of the ghost riders
The lyrics to The Raveonettes' song Attack of the Ghost Riders evoke an eerie, haunting feeling through the use of vivid and abstract imagery. The first two lines, "Lipstick on my face / Thunder in the sky," sets the scene for something ominous and dangerous. The shades are drawn, suggesting a sense of secrecy and isolation. The repetition of "I think you know" after each stanza creates a sense of foreboding, as if the singer is trying to warn the listener about something they cannot fully explain.
The next stanza introduces a new element to the song - a "crater in my brain" where strippers go insane. This line is particularly haunting, as it conjures up images of a bleak, post-apocalyptic world where people are driven to madness. Cabin number four "ain't gonna smile no more," a line that is open to interpretation but could be referencing a place of hiding where the occupants are scared and unable to find hope.
The chorus, "Attack of the ghost riders," is repeated several times throughout the song and serves as a kind of rallying cry or warning of impending doom. Overall, the song creates a vivid and unsettling impression of a world gone mad and overrun by ghostly riders.
