The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.

How I wish that it would snow now
I don't fell like going home now
I wish that I could stay
All the trees are on display now
And its cold now
I don't feel like going home now
I wish that I could walk
I wish that I could walk
You home
All the lights are coming on now
How I wish that it would snow now
I don't fell like going home now
I wish that I could stay
Santa's coming to town
With sequins in his hair
Santa's coming to town
With sequins in his hair
The Raveonettes's song The Christmas Song speaks to the desire of wanting to share the holiday season with someone special, but the sad realization that it may not be possible. The opening lines convey the yearning for a magical winter landscape that is typically associated with the holidays. However, not feeling like going home and the desire to stay with someone special suggests that there is something missing in the singer’s life, an absence that they hope can be filled during the festive period.
The chorus reinforces this longing for companionship but also a fear that it may not be possible. The repetition of the line “I wish that I could walk” followed by “you home” suggests a connection that the singer cannot have. The phrase “all the lights are coming on now” is sung several times throughout the song, which can also be interpreted as people coming together during Christmas, adding an element of loneliness that is contrasted with the communal spirit of the holiday season. The final lines on the song reference Santa Clause, who is usually a symbol of joy and giving, yet here, he is portrayed as having sequins in his hair, raising questions about the significance of this image.

One of the most underrated songs of all time.
@kyachdistent1301
In the sense it's a Christmas based song, yes. Otherwise, it has to get in a long line after all those great 80s underrated killers, and even some from the decades following, though not usually from acts AFTER the 80s, everything being so bad since the 90s and onwards.

As alternative Christmas songs go..... this is the BEST!!!
@kyachdistent1301
Well, the only way a song about Christmas can actually be good as opposed to sloppy, sappy, cloying and icky is to be alternative, that's the whole point I'd say, Name me an actual good Christmas song beyond 2 obvious ones.

I haven’t heard this song in at least a decade. Takes me back to being a senior in high school, just walking around the school talking to my girlfriend at the time a few days before christmas. She introduced me to this song and gave me a burned cd which, in my young love, I listened to on repeat all Christmas break. The last couple of seconds really hit hard and it brings back all those raw adolescent feelings where you thought your love was invincible. Things didn’t work out as they often dont at that age and I haven’t thought of her in years but this song will always take me back to those cold nights walking with my heart thumping, so excited, so happy and young and in love or whatever you think love is at 17. To be young again 😞
