The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.
Cops on Our Tail
The Raveonettes Lyrics

Driving through the desert looks all right
Going to a place where all the lights shine on
Going fast that's the way we go
Going fast that's the way we go
Going to a place where all the lights shine on
Try to follow us and you will get lost
Going to a place where all the lights shine on
The cops are on our tail but that's all right
The cops are on our tail but that's all right
We won't pull over and that's it
Fuck you!
The lyrics to The Raveonettes' song "Cops on Our Tail" depict a thrilling night ride through the desert with the cops hot on the singers' tails, but they are not afraid as they are heading to a place where all the lights shine on. The driving is reckless and fast, yet exciting and alive. The chorus repeats the line "Going to a place where all the lights shine on" in a mantra-like way, emphasizing the goal of the journey as something grand and breathtaking, where they want to feel the vibrancy of the urban scene.
The second verse illustrates the powerful, rebellious spirit of the singers, as they mock the police, urging them to follow and get lost in the neon lights of the city. The chorus changes slightly, taking on a defiant tone as the cops try to catch up, but the singers remain unyielding, refusing to pull over for them. The song ends with a curse, showing the singers' disdain for authority and their determination to live life on their own terms, consequences be damned.
In summary, "Cops on Our Tail" is a song about the thrill of the chase and the rush of breaking the rules. It glorifies the freedom of the open road and the bright lights of the city, with the sweet taste of rebellion and defiance adding to the high.
