The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.
Here Comes Mary
The Raveonettes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All dressed in black
Her heart so heavy
A love attack
Her dying cigarette in the rain
The gangs are out
And here comes Mary
Her love to bury
Her dying cigarette in the rain
Go home and cry to your mama tonight
Go home and bury your love tonight
Young love dead
Lost forever
Young love dead
Lost forever
A dying cigarette in the rain
A shiny gun
To her head
Here comes Mary
Forever dead
A wet cigarette in the rain
Went home and cried to her mama tonight
Went home and buried her love tonight
Went home and cried to her mama tonight
Went out and killed herself tonight
The lyrics of The Raveonettes's song Here Comes the End seem to speak about Mary, a young girl who is deeply in love but sadly, it is a love that is causing her a lot of pain. In the first verse, Mary is introduced as being dressed in black and her heart is heavy with love. Her "dying cigarette in the rain" is an indication of her emotional state, perhaps that she is feeling weighed down by her problems and is not getting any comfort from the people around her.
In the second verse, Mary encounters a group of people, "the gangs" who do not seem to be supportive of her love. They are instead yelling and shouting in order to bury it. This further isolates Mary, leaving her lonely and vulnerable. The chorus is a warning directed at Mary to go home and bury her love, showing that she should give up on it and move on. The repetition of the words 'young love dead, lost forever' is very poignant and suggests that Mary is hurt and emotionally broken.
At the end of the song, Mary is seen holding a shiny gun to her head, and this act is probably done out of despair, indicating that she has lost all hope. The repetition of "went home and cried to her mama tonight, went out and killed herself tonight" in the last stanza of the song makes it clear that Mary has decided to take her own life.
