The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.
My Tornado

Do that thing
You do so well
You do so well
Hard to please
Hard to get
Hard to love and to forget
Go on black
Don't pass me up
Let's destroy
Don't make it stop
My tornado
My tornado
Clean shit up
Clean shit up
My tornado, my tornado...
The Raveonettes's song My Tornado is a dark and mysterious track that speaks of a tumultuous relationship between two people. The chorus of the song begs the subject of the song to continue doing what they do best. The opening lines of the song, "Come on now, do that thing, you do so well" can be interpreted in different ways. The song could be referring to a skill that the subject has, or it could be referring to the actions that cause the relationship to be so volatile. The subject is described as being hard to please, hard to get, and hard to love and forget. These lines allude to the fact that the subject is someone who is emotionally unavailable, and yet, the singer cannot seem to let them go.
The second half of the chorus takes a more aggressive tone as the singer begs the subject not to pass them up and to destroy everything in their path. The chorus ends with the lines, "My tornado, my tornado, clean shit up, clean shit up". The use of the phrase "my tornado" is interesting. A tornado is a destructive force of nature, and by referring to the subject as a tornado, the lyrics imply that the subject's presence is both beautiful and terrifying. The use of the phrase "clean shit up" at the end of the chorus also implies that the subject is capable of causing chaos and destruction, but the singer still wants them in their life.
Interestingly, the song uses a lot of metaphors that evoke images of destruction and chaos. The song also has a retro feel to it, reminiscent of 1950s and 60s rock and roll. The Raveonettes's use of distorted guitar riffs and a simple drumbeat helps to create a sense of urgency and danger in the song. Overall, My Tornado is a haunting and emotionally charged track that speaks of a relationship that is as beautiful as it is destructive.
