The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.

Nothing I have in the world makes better sense
'Cause I'm a fish and you're the sea
When we're together or when we're apart
There's never a space in between the beat of our hearts
Cause I'm the apple and you're the tree
One day at a time is good for you
You are my woman, I am your man
Nothing else matters at all, now I understand
That I'm the door and you're the key
Every morning I wake in your smile
Feeling your breath on my face and the love in your eyes
'Cause you're the honey and I'm the bee
One day at a time is all we do
One day at a time is good for us too (you too)
'Cause I'm the fish and you're the sea
'Cause I'm the apple and you're the tree
'Cause I'm the door and you're the key
'Cause you're the honey and I'm the bee
The Raveonettes' song One Day At A Time is a love song that expresses the depth of commitment and interdependency of two lovers. The lyrics portray a relationship where the lovers need each other as much as a fish needs the sea, an apple needs the tree, and a door needs a key. The song starts by acknowledging that the singer's lover is both their weakness and strength, and that nothing else in the world makes better sense than their connection. It's as if the singer needs their lover to survive, and vice versa. They are each other's essential and indispensable part.
The song's chorus - One day at a time is all we do, One day at a time is good for you - emphasizes the idea that the couple is committed to taking things one step at a time. They do not rush, but instead, they move forward by making each day a fulfilling and meaningful one. The lyrics indicate that their love is not something that can be rushed, it requires nurturing, patience, and a deep understanding of each other's needs.
The bridge of the song, where the lovers are compared to a fish and the sea, an apple and a tree, and a door and a key, highlights the extent to which the couple's lives are intertwined. Each one relies on the other for their completeness, and they are unable to function without each other. The final line of the song, where the lovers are described as honey and a bee, is a metaphor for the sweetness of their relationship. It's a love that they cherish and that is worth working on every day to maintain.
