The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.

On lonely street
Little runaway girl
Do it again
Do it again
Your boyfriend's mean
And your mom's a bitch
Do it again
Do it again
Run run run away little girl
Get your fun in this trashy world
Empty-hearted boys by your side
Lick your lips and fuck suicide
Suicide
No tonight
Suicide
No tonight
You're ripe for love
New York's the shit
Little runaway girl
Do it again
Do it again
On the Brooklyn Bridge
You fix your stare
The East River sleeps
Do it again
Do it again
Do it again
Do it again
Run run run away little girl
Get your fun in this trashy world
Empty-hearted boys by your side
Lick your lips and fuck suicide
Suicide
No tonight
Suicide
No tonight
Run run run away little girl
Get your fun in this trashy world
Empty-hearted boys by your side
Lick your lips and fuck suicide
Suicide
No tonight
Suicide
No tonight
The Raveonettes's song "Suicide" is a haunting and provocative song that tells the story of a little runaway girl who is frustrated with her life and the people around her. The opening verses reveal that the girl is on a lonely street, dreaming of a better life, but her circumstances are bleak. Her boyfriend is mean, and her mom is a bitch, leading her to run away time and time again. The chorus captures her angst and desperation as she contemplates suicide. However, the lyrics suggest that she is not ready to take her own life yet- "Suicide, no tonight" repeated throughout the song.
The second verse reveals that New York is the place she believes will bring her the romance and escape she longs for. As she stands on the Brooklyn Bridge staring into the East River, she contemplates another attempt at starting over. She is looking to "get her fun in this trashy world" and finds comfort in the fact that there are always "empty-hearted boys by her side." However, in the end, she still resists the temptation of suicide.
The song's lyrics are undoubtedly dark and tragic, and the band's use of distorted guitar tones and falsetto vocals only heightens the bleakness of the lyrics. The music video also matches the song's haunting tone, featuring imagery of abandoned buildings, graffiti, and the girl wandering the streets alone. Overall, "Suicide" is a compelling and thought-provoking piece of music that tackles heavy topics such as depression, isolation, and hopelessness.
