The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.
Wake Me Up
The Raveonettes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To bring me down
I've been lied to
All year round
Where did we go
What did we see
We saw nothing but you and me
A little bit
When I was a boy
I'd go home from school alone
And wait for you
You never showed
Never showed
I sit and wait so
Patiently
In my room
So patiently
The lyrics of The Raveonettes’s song “Wake Me Up” is an emotional and soulful story about the difficulties of a relationship. The song basically talks about a person who wakes up every day hoping that things will get better in their relationship. But unfortunately, every day they are faced with the reality that their partner is bringing them down instead of uplifting them. The lines, “You wake me up, to bring me down,” portray this feeling of being called upon only to be let down once again. Additionally, the lyric, “I’ve been lied to all year round” suggests that the person has lost trust in their partner and is feeling trapped in the relationship.
The second verse talks about the hardships that the person has faced from childhood itself. The line, “When I was a boy, I’d go home from school alone and wait for you, you never showed, never showed” showcases the loneliness that the person has faced throughout their lives. This verse further builds on the theme of abandonment that is prevalent in the song. The chorus, “To say goodbye is to die a little bit,” highlights the emotional depth of the song and how hard it is to let go of a relationship even when it is bringing you down.
