The band is named after American film actress Tuesday Weld. Coates once had a dream involving Weld and 30s vocalist Al Bowlly. Coates and others often cite the dream as inspiration for the band and its particular style.

The Real Tuesday Weld Lyrics

Through the trees
Takes you back
Somewhere you've been.
This touch
On your skin
Reminds you of
If only you could
Remember
How you wish you could
Remember
The Real Tuesday Weld's song "Déjà Vu" is a melancholic piece with deep, thought-provoking lyrics. The opening lines, "The light through the trees, takes you back somewhere you've been," describe the sensation that many people associate with déjà vu, where a familiar feeling or memory is triggered by a present-day stimulus. The imagery of light filtering through trees has a dreamlike, ethereal quality that captures the elusive nature of memory.
Continuing on from the first verse, the second verse introduces a sense of regret where the lyrics, "This touch on your skin, reminds you of what would have been again," implies that the singer has experienced this feeling before but has missed out on some opportunities in their past. The final lines, "If only you could remember, how you wish you could remember," reinforces this theme of nostalgia and longing for the past.
Overall, "Déjà Vu" invites us to reflect on the memories that shape our lives and the yearning to relive certain moments. The song's poignant lyrics are beautifully complemented by the haunting melody, which makes for a memorable listening experience.

Chills down my spine. I want this song to be longer, yet at the same time the shorter song makes it perfect.

I just stumbled on this and love it. It's somewhat reminiscent of a 1980s band, Tuxedomoon, particularly their song "Jinx." Tuxedomoon is more dischordant, but the elements are there.
