Art often thrives in the aftermath of adversity, and since we last heard from Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, there have been plenty of variables that the five-piece alternative rock act had to endure. But for the Middleburg, Florida-based band, hardships eventually ironed out thanks to unrelenting perseverance, paving the way for the band’s incredibly ambitious (and aptly titled) The Hell Or High Water EP, release August 24th, 2010.
The self-released project comes on the heels of the band’s voluntary parting of ways with Virgin Records, the company that first signed the band for 2006’s gold selling Don’t You Fake It (spawning the smash single “Face Down”), followed by 2009’s Lonely Road (which debuted in the top twenty of the Billboard 200), but eventually became more of an albatross than an anchor for the burgeoning band.
According to the Reap Song facts, the first single from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' third studio album, Am I the Enemy?, "Reap", was released via YouTube on March 24 2011, then for download a month later on April 26, 2011. The whole album was released on August 29, 2011.

False Pretense
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The world's got a funny way of turning round on you
When a friend tries to stab you right in the face
Losing faith in everything I thought, I hoped and knew
Don't sweat it
Set a false pretense
Yeah, and it doesn't seem likely to fade
Betray, you're not gonna be willing to change
Ca-ca-ca-ca-cause you know
In sacrifice
False pretense, you'll hurt again
Stop pretending to deny
False pretense, you'll hurt again
All along you know you thought you got the best of me
You were wrong and I'm laughing right in your face
I cannot believe you claimed you were my family
Don't sweat it
Set a false pretense
Betray, you're not gonna be willing to change
Yeah, and it doesn't seem likely to fade
Betray, you're not gonna be willing to change
Ca-ca-ca-ca-cause you know
In sacrifice
False pretense, you'll hurt again
Stop pretending to deny
False pretense, you'll hurt again
Guitar
Oh, it's time to let it go
I can't seem to understand it
How you've turned out to be so cold
You tried but were caught red handed
Are you happy with your role?
It's funny to me how you've turned into such a joke
In sacrifice
False pretense, you'll hurt again
Stop pretending to deny
False pretense, you'll hurt again
So play the game until you run out
And play the game into my head
The lyrics to The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus's song False Pretense are about betrayal and the feelings associated with it. The singer is addressing a friend who has stabbed him in the back, and expressing his loss of faith in everything he believed about his relationships. He encourages the friend to stop pretending and set a false pretense, as he knows they will not be willing to change. The chorus repeats the phrase "false pretense, you'll hurt again," emphasizing the harm caused by deceitful behavior. The singer also remarks on how he cannot believe the betrayer claimed to be his family, highlighting the depth of the deception. The song ends with a guitar solo and the singer exclaiming "it's time to let it go."
The lyrics in False Pretense are not only relatable to everyone who has experienced betrayal, but they also serve as a warning to be cautious about those who may not have our best interests at heart. The song was released in 2006, and it has since become a popular anthem for those who have been betrayed.
