Got Gaudi
And I got Jamboree
Got my chicas
Maria, Anna, Monica (Maria, Anna, Monica)
And I got Noemi
(A what cha gotta)
Got Picasso Blue (got Picasso Blue)
And I got the Good Bar Crew
Got Bikini
And the New York disco
Got surreal Dali
Oh, yeah (Oh, yeah)
Lost and rollin', driftin' loosely on my own through
Barcelona, Barcelona
Catalonia, take over
Barcelona
Got Iberia, Got Oveja Negra
Got Zeleste
And the Karma dub
I got the Pipa Club
(A what cha gotta)
Got Picasso Blue (got Picasso Blue)
Got a senorita too
The Panam's sex show
Got my transvestites
At the Top of the Mountain disco
Yeah (Yeah)
Lost and rollin'
I don't got much to go back to
Lost and rollin', driftin' loosely on my own through
Barcelona, Barcelona
Catalonia, take over
Barcelona
(Oh, oh)
Barcelona
(Oh, oh)
Barcelona
(Oh, oh)
Barcelona
(Oh, oh)
Barcelona
My sweet angel, Barcelona, hide me safely, give me shelter
In a dark place under assumed name through Catalonia
Lost and rollin', driftin' loosely, no occupation, Barcelona
The last angel, Barcelona
The Rentals' "Barcelona" is a catchy indie-pop track that paints a vivid picture of the city's wild nightlife. The lyrics are an ode to Barcelona's eccentricity, nightlife, and the excitement of being lost in a foreign city. The song's protagonist talks about the various things he has while he's in the city, including absinthe, Gaudi's architecture, Jamboree, the Good Bar Crew, surreal Dali, Picasso Blue, and transvestites at the Top of the Mountain disco.
The song highlights the singer's escapism as he navigates through the streets of Barcelona, with nobody knowing his name. He talks about the freedom he feels, his lack of responsibilities or employment, and his carefree attitude. The chorus emphasizes the song's theme with repeated mentions of "Lost and rollin', driftin' loosely on my own through Barcelona."
Overall, "Barcelona" is a reflection of the carefree and wild spirit of the city, and the song's upbeat tempo and catchy chorus will transport the listener to Barcelona's lively streets.

I love this song. It always makes me feel a little better about my day when I listen to it.

So glad this popped up in the Recommends today; has led to Rentals (Re)Appreciation Day. Man those first two albums were strong, and Seven More Minutes absurdly underrated.

Oh God I love The Rentals. Haven't heard this song in ages... good job youtube!

This song is just slightly harder to search for than it should be. I guess Matt Sharp never thought about the downside of calling his band The Rentals and naming a song after a popular vacation spot.

Agreed, I think California's verse is better, but everything else in this version is better, especially those awesome synths.

I think I prefer the simpler, heavier, falsetto-focused version in California, but as for subject matter this is way cooler and more meaningful, I like the embrace of non-american culture, you sense that rush he must have felt on his European adventures. Singing about California is a cliche now and already was back in the 90's.
