Billy Big Bollocks
The Reytons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Billy big bollocks has been on the drink again
Now he′s giving it the big un but the crowd know it's all pretend
He′s had too much to drink and don't care what you think
Vodka and lager thrown up down the sink
He's talking a lot but saying so little right now

And he′s calling the doorman a loser
And it′s all kicking off in the boozer
The night's just begun but they tell him he′s done
And at the top of his voice he demanded another one

So why you gotta be a dickhead?
You silly little man
You talk the talk
But can't be so hard with that bottle in your hand
So why you gotta be a dickhead?
You stupid little man
Cos getting thrown out of here can′t have been part of your plan

Billy big bollock's stood at the takeaway door
Giving it the big ′un but they've all heard it all before
Slowly he's given he′s out for a fate
Stood on his own I can′t see any mates
Giving it large and he can't even walk on his own

And he′s asking the bloke for a lager
He's tell him no like his father
The night′s just begun but they tell him he's done
And at the top of his voice he demanded another one

So why you gotta be a dickhead?
You silly little man
You talk the talk
But can′t be so hard without bottle in your hand
So why you gotta be a dickhead?
You stupid little man
Cos getting thrown out of here can't have been part of your plan

Billy big bollocks sways in a taxi queue
A bird walks past, he can't help it he has to be rude
He′s giving her lips as he′s taking her home
But what he can't see is she ain′t on her own
Her boyfriend walks over
He walks up beside him and laughs

So why you gotta be a dickhead?
You silly little man
You talk the talk
But can't be so hard without bottle in your hand
So why you gotta be a dickhead?

You stupid little man
It′s gotta be gotta be gotta be part of your plan

Overall Meaning

The Reytons's song "Billy Big Bollocks" is a cautionary tale about a man who gets too drunk and starts causing trouble. Throughout the song, the singer observes how Billy is acting tough and trying to prove himself to others, but in reality, he is just a drunken mess. Despite his attempts to impress others, Billy is unable to control himself, and the night ends with him getting thrown out of the bar and embarrassingly hitting on a taken woman.

The song uses the character of Billy to comment on the toxicity of alcohol-fueled masculinity and how it can lead to destructive behavior. By portraying Billy as a foolish and pathetic figure, the song sends a clear message that acting tough and aggressive is not the way to gain respect or admiration.

Overall, "Billy Big Bollocks" is a well-crafted rock song that combines catchy melodies with insightful lyrics to create a memorable portrait of a man who tries too hard to be something he's not.

on Kids off the Estate

Yeah that street lights on and I'm still out
Grew up fast and had no doubt
I'd make it in this godforsaken town
Nintendos came second hand
And Clifton park was Disney land
Oh and we want for nowt
And never get let down

And we stay out till late
The kids off the estate
Mothers had to wait
Cos those boys will be boys
You don't have to hate
The kids off the estate
Mates after a feyt
And they called them Reytons

Jumpers thrown on a patch of dirt
On that corner field in last seasons shirt
Till the windows break but they're never gonna catch us now
We've got quids for the corner shop
But when he turns his back we're gonna take the lot
And he can run quite fast but he's never gonna track us down

And we stay out till late
The kids off the estate
Mothers had to wait
Cos those boys will be boys
You don't have to hate
The kids off the estate
Mates after a feyt
And they called them Reytons

UV lights on the council flats
No camera's work but still hoods and caps
Cos if the cops roll by we're gonna have to stash the lot
Eight missed calls and you're late again
You read it's twelve fifteen on a thirty two ten
But you don't go back cos you know they'll be trouble and war

And we stay out till late
The kids off the estate
Mothers had to wait
Cos those boys will be boys
You don't have to hate
The kids off the estate
Mates after a feyt
And they called them Reytons

Yeah that streetlights on and I'm still out
Grew up fast and had no doubt
I'd make it in this godforsaken town
Time moves fast and we slow down
Loser dream while chase inbound
Cos we want it all and forever get let down

Still we stay out so late
The kids off the estate
Mothers had to wait
Cos those boys will be boys
You don't have to hate
The kids off the estate

Mates after a feyt
And they called us Reytons

on Mind the Gap

"Mind The Gap" is a phrase used, in Sheffield (Where the Reytons originate) by both sets of supporters of the professional football teams, United and the other lot, when their club is higher up the football league structure than the other. This would suggest, to me, that the song is specifically about football 'firms' (gangs of violent hooligans) facing off. This is supported by the brand of clothing named which are particularly popular with same.
