Little Queenie
The Rolling Stones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got the lumps in my throat
When I saw her coming down the aisle
I gets the wiggles in my knees
When she looked at me and sweetly smiled

There she is again standing over by the record machine
Oooh, she's looking like a model on the cover of a magazine
Why she's too cute to be a minute over seventeen

Meanwhile, I was thinking
She's in the mood
No need to break it
I got the chance
I oughtta take it
She can dance
We can make it
Come on Queenie
Let's shake it

Go, go, go, Little Queenie
Go, go, go, Little Queenie
Go, go, go, Little Queenie

Won't ya tell me who the queen's
Standing over by the record machine
Why she's looking like a model
On the cover of a magazine
Yeah she's too cute to be a minute over seventeen

Meanwhile, I was still thinkin'
If it's a slow song, we'll omit it
If it's a rocker, that'll get it
If it's good, she'll admit it
Come on Queenie, lets get with it

Go, go, go, Little Queenie

Go, go, go, Little Queenie
Go, go, go, Little Queenie

Overall Meaning

The Rolling Stones’ Little Queenie is a rock classic from 1969 which talks about the singer’s admiration for a young woman in the crowd at a venue. The first verse describes the singer’s nervousness and excitement as he sees the woman walking down the aisle. He gets a feeling like a lump in his throat and his knees begin to wobble when she looks at him and smiles. The second verse goes on to praise the woman’s beauty and youthfulness. The singer describes her as a model on a magazine cover and comments that she appears no more than seventeen.

The chorus is an invitation for the woman to dance with the singer. He urges her to shake it and go go go. The last verse reveals the singer's continued anticipation. He wonders what type of song will be played at the venue and decides that if it's a slow song, they'll omit it, but if it's a rocker, they will both get into it together. The song ends with another call for Little Queenie to dance.

The song is a playful and lighthearted ode to the singer's admiration for this young woman, and it captures the energy and excitement of the era. The Rolling Stones have been known for their high-energy and sexually charged music which often featured lyrics that were provocative and controversial.

That superb chug-chug-chug rhythm Keith pumps out is one of the greatest sounds in rock & roll!

From Me To You

I call it chukka chukka rhythm, either way, way too cool☺

Tom Carl

Nobody beats Chuck at it but Keith is definitely second. Ronnie Wood is excellent at it and John Lennon, though he's not rated that highly as a guitarist, was great at it as well.

Jeff Slade

They're playing it even slower than Chuck's original "Go, Johnny, Go!" film version, which was slow. And which is correct, it's a slow song.
The story goes that Chuck wrote it on the spur of the moment as a B-side filler for the film.

James Lee

I like when Keith goes for the solo Mick Taylor slides right in and takes over the chug a chugs part

Mike Oxlong

Keith plays Chuck Berry better than Chuck Berry
