Tumbling Dice
The Rolling Stones Lyrics

Mmm yeah! (Woo, woo)
Women think I'm tasty, but they're always tryin' to waste me
Make me burn the candle right down
But, baby, baby, don't need no jewels in my crown

'Cause all you women is low down gamblers
Cheatin' like I don't know how
Baby, got no flavor, fever in the funk house now
This low down bitchin' got my poor feet a itchin'
Don't you know you know the duece is still wild

Baby, I can't stay, you got to roll me
And call me the tumblin' dice
Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry
Don't you see the time flashin' by

Honey, got no money
I'm all sixes and sevens and nines
Say now baby, I'm the rank outsider
You can be my partner in crime

Baby, I can't stay
You got to roll me and call me the tumblin'
Roll me and call me the tumblin' dice
Now baby

Oh my, my, my, I'm the lone crap shooter
Playin' the field ev'ry night
Baby, I can't stay
You got to roll me and call me the tumblin' dice (Call me the tumblin')
Got to roll me (ya yes), got to roll me, got to roll me (Oh yeah)

Got to roll me
Got to roll me (yeah)
Got to roll me (Keep on rolling)
Got to roll me (Keep on rolling)
Got to roll me (Keep on rolling)
Got to roll me

Call me the tumblin' dice, yeah
Got to roll me
Got to roll me
Baby sweet as sugar (Got to roll me)
Yeah, my, my, my yeah (Got to roll me)
Now now now now (Got to roll me)
I went down baby, oh
Got to roll me (hit me)
Baby I'm down

Overall Meaning

The Rolling Stones's "Tumbling Dice" is a song about a man who is desired and pursued by women, but finds himself constantly in trouble due to his gambling habits. The lyrics suggest that he is aware of the nature of the women he is involved with, who are "low down gamblers, cheatin' like I don't know how." The song paints a picture of a reckless lifestyle that is thrilling yet ultimately unsustainable, as the singer is constantly on the move, seeking new experiences and taking risks.

The first two lines of the song are perhaps the most memorable, as they describe the singer's attraction to women and the danger that comes with it. The line "Women think I'm tasty, but they're always tryin' to waste me" suggests that the singer is aware of the risks of his lifestyle, but is nonetheless drawn to it. The line "Make me burn the candle right down" reinforces this notion, suggesting that the singer is living life to the fullest, but at great personal cost.

The lyrics of "Tumbling Dice" are both playful and dark, depicting a man who is both alluring and self-destructive. The song is a testament to the power of rock and roll to capture the spirit of a moment and define a generation.

I'm so thankful that we have these recordings to keep us company in the bleak desert that the world of music has become.

@peterbellwood5412

Hello Randall. I'm thankful too, but 'bleak desert' ? Oh, brother, open your ears and heart. There's absolutely tons waiting for you. Here's just a few that floats my boat: Nick Beggs(from '80s Kajagoogoo) is prolific! Look out for anything by The Mute Gods, or Fish on Friday, or Trifecta. M83 (have you watched 'Oblivion'? Coz they do the soundtrack. Sublime.) Steven Wilson and his band Porcupine Tree: The Sky Moves Sideways. Cafe Chaos: Shifting Sands. Anthony Kalugin and his band Karfagen. Plenty more.

Alas my friend your words are spot on !

The old timers are still cranking out new music buddy. Deep Purple has a new album coming in July. There's one song on YouTube now and it's pretty good. Go give it a listen. Blue Oyster Cult did too. It's also on YouTube. But I get what you mean. But think about this, in our parents and grandparents Era, their music was the best to them and I bet they felt the same way when their favorite musicians moved over for the new. But still, you have a valid point.

Your comment struck me as funny because during a conversation recently at work I described music today as the Sahara desert, had to explain to a 20 something that if music was water, we are in the desert with water holes few and far between. I have come across some decent music occasionally but it’s kind of far between each newer song/ band that I find that have talent

No one opened a song like the Rolling Stones. They are the GOATS of the opening riff in my opinion.
