Verlie Rice/Otha Hayes/Andre Williams)
Heard about the fella you been layin' with
All over your neighborhood
So why did you ask me baby
Or didn't you think I could
I know you've been runnin' round all over town
Shakin' it up in the night
And if that was you and me now baby
I would show you how to do it right
CHORUS
Roll down
Shake it shake it shake it shake it baby
Here we go loop-de-loop
Shake it up baby
Here we go loop-de-lai
I'll bet you'll never see you shake a tail feather
I'll bet you'll never see you shake a tail feather
I'll bet you'll never see me shake a tail feather
CHORUS
Shake it up
Shake down now
I'm a man
Up and down
So come on
Come on baby
So come on
Come on baby
Come on
Come on baby
Come on
Come on baby
Shake, shake it, shake
Shake shake shake......

Overall Meaning

The Romantics' Shake A Tail Feather is a flirtatious song in which the singer addresses a woman who has been involved with other men in the neighborhood. He questions her motives for seeking him out, suggesting that she may not have believed he had the ability to satisfy her. He asserts his own prowess as a lover and dancer, claiming that if they were together, he could show her "how to do it right." The chorus is an invitation to dance, urging the woman to "shake it" and "loop-de-loop" with him. The song concludes with a repetition of the invitation to dance, emphasizing the infectious, lively energy of the track.

The lyrics of the song are playful, but also somewhat confrontational, as the singer clearly has some level of frustration with the woman's actions. At the same time, he is clearly quite confident in himself and his abilities, both as a dancer and a lover. The song emphasizes the joy of dancing and the power of music to bring people together, with the loop-de-loop and other dance commands inviting listeners to get up and move to the beat. Overall, Shake A Tail Feather is a lively and upbeat song that celebrates the joy of dancing and the thrill of romantic potential.

on What I Like About You

Winter of '84, 4 feet of snow drops on Harrisburg, PA the night the Romantics are to play the local club The Metro, Called to find out the band were there. Took the girlfriend to a venue of a dozen people and the band. They played that song at least 6 times, once me sing it on stage. Best concert I was ever at.
