1. The Roosters (ザ・ルースターズ ) was a legendary Japanese rock band, active from 1978 to 1988. Originally, the group mixed punk with rock 'n' roll, but eventually branched out to include elements of gothic rock, post-punk, ska, new wave and folk. In 1999, a tribute album called "Respectable Roosters" was released. Some of the featured artists on the tribute album include Thee Michelle Gun Elephant , The Pillows and Supercar . The band reunited in 2004 to perform at the Fuji Rock festival.

2. The Roosters were a band from Warsaw. At the beginning there were only: Bartek, Toy and Jacek but Faiver joined the band immediately. The Roosters went through several personal changes. For some time Oskar of V/A Team sung as a lead vocalist, Jacek was replaced for approximately year and a half by Janek of Blog 27 and Toy left the band while the spring tour of 2007 for personal reasons. Finally the Roosters settled with Faiver(guitar/vocals), Bartek (guitar/vocals), Dere(bass), Piotrek(drums) . Since then no one left or joined the band. In the early spring of 2007 after signing a record contract with Warsaw City Rockers Records- the Roosters managed to release their début EP Roosters Republic. The Roosters sound is diverse. While trying to achieve an 'American punk' sound, the band was experimenting with genders like ska, pop, hardcore and electro. The Roosters played a lot of shows in Poland, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Recently the band recorded their début LP Guns Up and signed a record deal with Rockers Publishing. The album will be available in stores all over Poland in February.

My Dad was a D-Day/Normandy Vet. He landed at Coursels Sur Mere, on the morning of June 06th, 1944. On the run in to the beach, the Cockswain was killed about 700 Hundred Yards from the beach, his head was shot off as he looked over the shield in the Higgins Boat. At the same moment, two large calibre shells landed on either side of the Craft. They filled the Higgins boat with about 2 ft of water. My dad had been a sailor before the war, and knew how to run a boat. He said to me that he had to look at the panel to figure out how it worked (pumps etc) and they were sitting ducks for about 5 minutes as the pumps emptied the water. Ping ping ping as the Germans targeted the boat. Once underway again so as they hit the sand on the Beach the old boy dropped the locks on the door and it fell open. Most of the 22 men in that boat died between the water and the seawall with my dad and TWO OTHERS the only ones to make it to the seawall. The old boy refused to speak about what happened during the war at all until he was told (August 1st 1990) that he had terminal cancer that had metastasised though out his body. So at that point he sat me down and started to speak and 7 Hours later (August 02nd 1990 ~ Saturday) I knew SOME of the stories in his head. He drank a whole case of beer (24 bottle case) and it didn't even fizz on him. I have stories that would make your socks get up and run away about WWII in Normandy, and Germany and after the war too. This song really touches home with me as it reminds me of the very long day in 1990, listening to story after story about what happened etc. Like the others mentioned here, he REFUSED to hunt and watch sports or war movies on TV. If one came on TV, he'd get up and go into the kitchen and sit and read his Zane Grey novels til it was over

He's only seen us play once, and I played this song for him when we were in this club opening for Iggy Pop. I'll never forget it. He was standing in the back and he heard all the words and stuff. Of course, I was never in Vietnam and he won't talk about it, but when I wrote this it felt right...like these were things he might have felt or thought. And I remember when we played it he was back by the soundboard and I could see him. He was back there with his big gray Stetson and his cowboy boots — he's a total Oklahoma man — and at the end, he took his hat off and just held it in the air. And he was crying the whole time. Vietnam, 70, 71, 72, in the delta. Survived two cancers, bladder, right lung, hearing loss (M-60), PTSD, and so on. My life has never been the same. VA is keeping me ticking. I never considered myself a rooster but this song helps lift me up at times. Never saw this video before tonight. Thankful.

Brother in law was Brown Water Navy, multiple tours, retired Chief Warrant, died of cancer- Agent Orange... I was USNR, 67', 68', piece of 69'... Sealion. No glory here for me, but so many in our gen experienced much glory.
In college, UofF, Gainesville, I hooked up with a 2 Bronze and a Silver Star awarded Army Sgt., whose father was a retired Col., who flew B-29's in WWII and Korea.
We sat at Tiger Hall, in 70' and watched SDS take over the Admin. Bldg, as thousands Marched at night with lit candles. The war protests.
He was among those used for bait to draw out enemy contact. He experienced Tet, 68'. That's about all he ever said about it and I never asked either.
He was a poster child for PTSD.
HARD to believe, it was so long ago, but every war since, has ended the same, but the cost of admission was never cheap.

My Dad did two tours in Vietnam. Got hooked on the morphine they carried. Came back an addict, alcoholic. He struggled for years to keep it together. 4 heart attacks later I buried him in '91. This song brings his duties and the pain to life. Now I too struggle with the same addiction having been 7 years clean this song is larger than life.

I've noticed one thing, the men that brag about being over there and act like it was nothing, I figured their hardest job was peeling potatoes or just lying! Men that were in the midst of that hell on Earth will not speak of it, and if they do, you can tell that it's messed them up forever. My step grandfather somehow survived the first wave on omaha beach without a scratch. He was later hit twice during the battle of the bulge. Every now and then if he got some wine in him he would make a general statement about the war but wouldn't give details saying it was "too bloody". He went to see saving private ryan by himself after hearing how realistic it was. All he said about it was he cried the whole time thinking about his buddies getting mowed down on that beach and that while it was probably the most accurate movie he ever saw, reality was much much worse. No one should experience even once what these combat soldiers faced on a daily basis yet humanity still finds ways to get into wars. Miss you Papa Tony.

as a product of the ww2 generation i concur. i lived in s. fl for a long time. i was with the gov. i ran into countless vets from the usa and germany. it didnt matter which side u were on the stories i heard were brutal. the most brutal was a former waffen ss guy who served at the russian front. it was ancient hatred from both sides. i have forgotten about these brave men from both sides who did what they had to do. thanks for making me remember what none of us should forget.

This song always makes me think about my father, who made it through five years of WW2 (Canadian, started in 1940 after the Brits started in 1939), mostly in France and Italy.
I was told that when he got home he gave away his hunting rifles and fishing equipment; he wouldn't even kill a fly or mosquito after that, he just swished them away. He was a good father for someone so hurt psychologically by the insanity of war; he said war is a hell no one should be subjected to.

My dad's best friend did the same after returning from the war in the Pacific. He had an amazing collection of historic guns, but got rid of them all and started collecting arrowheads. Died of alcoholism, and the cause didn't hit me until after the Vietnam war. RIP Bud Carpenter.

My father was 101st Airborne from about 1954-1967. KIA at 31 years old. I've spent my Life (37 years with Department of Defense) serving my country. My dad will be forever young to me and I'm 60. Vietnam may have been a mistake for us to get involved in, but show some thanks and sympathy for the guys who served. More Vietnam vets died by the mid 1990's than actually died in the war itself. Booze, drugs, suicide and car "accidents". That stinking war stole a LOT more than my father. It destroyed a million American families and several million Vietnamese families. Let's try to make Peace with our bloody past. Please...

My first tour in Iraq in 05 we were jamming out to this song doing weapons maintenance on our trucks. A civilian contractor wandered over and like us he was an Infantry Marine who volunteered for 2 tours in Nam. He didn't say too much about it but when he left he shook each of our hands and said he was grateful for our service and sacrifice. I said we should be thanking him for his service and I remember his choked up response was "Service for what?".

My dad actually told me the meaning of this song a while back, just listened to it because I wanted to and it seems he told me correctly what it's about judging by the comments. But this song now reminds me of an experience I had when I met a Vietnam war vet walking through this little park (which me and friends skateboard at) to get to this store near by. He asked which way the particular store he wanted to go was. I directed him but before he started to walk away I noticed he had a hat on saying Vietnam war veteran or something and that's when I said "thank you for your service" and the old man was very appreciative that I said that because he told me after that he didn't used to and still never has been thanked too much for fighting in Vietnam. He explained that when him and his buddies got home they were called baby killers and people hated them for fighting there. Now this song with that particular lyric "they spit on me in my homeland" always reminds me of that man I met that day

My grandpa was in Vietnam he lost both of his legs up to his hips and was in a wheelchair all his life. He would cry whenever he would see or hear any war movies or music. My mom told me of an incident that happened when she was young he freaked out one day during dinner at the table. He threw a glass and plate at my grandmother and took a knife and jumped out of his chair and started crawling away with the knife in his hand thinking they were suicide bombers. He passed away last year but he was never the same and never told me or my mom about it and only told a few details to my grandmother about what happened over their. My husband was in Vietnam in TET 68 with the 3/3/3 Marines. Came back and in 1981 we met and was married, both in the Army then. Gave birth to his only son. Son was 27 when his dad died. He argued with him, fought him but he loved his father. He's now married and is a father to a little girl. It hurt so much he didn't live long enough to enjoy the birth of his granddaughter. His demons got the best of him.

Love this song. Resonates. Vietnam war was the background of my childhood. My dad was in WWII on a PT boat island-hopping in the Pacific. He never talked about it either, until a very little bit towards the end of his life. I see some of what I saw in my dad's eyes in Rooster. Hurts.

Two of my uncles were killed in WWII. One was a B-17 pilot who was downed over the North Sea in March of '43, the other was a combat engineer who was killed July 27th, 1944 in Normandy leading his platoon as a lieutenant: he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor. My Grandfather, the combat engineer's brother, was in the 11th Airborne in the Philippines during 1944-1945. I know he saw and did some horrible things that could never be unseen, and his "1,000 yard stare" came out quite often. He almost never said a word about his service. He was the toughest and most stoic man I've ever seen. Those men were just a different breed. RIP to them all, thanks for helping to save the free world.

This song meant a great deal to many- I made my dad a cd with this song on it because he was a Vietnam war vet (he was a medic and a sniper)- I was his little girl but throughout my life we always remained close- there wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t see or talk with him. I explained the song to him and he loved it. My dad was humble, strong and had grit like I’ve not seen since- he was a rock to our whole family and put his needs last. He past away this last year but as I sat with him in the hospital, I put my phone up to his ear and played all his favorite songs - this being one of them. I missed vietnam by a year or so. I knew many whose older brothers went. Dad was a ww2 combat vet. They never want to talk about it cause they do not want to remember the pain and death of their friends.
women like to talk about their feelings. would you want to talk about holding a dear friend in your arms as they bleed to death and there is nothing you can do?
I could always tell who served in combat while I was in the army, they never wanted to be friends with anyone or talk much and the distant stare. Horrible.

Friend USS Yorktown, lots of letters too. then, wanted to head up a pen pal exchange wNavy Carrier Vinson in my Daughter's Kindergarten class- after 9/11, bought the stamped postcards & THE SCHOOL wouldn't approve it! But our soldier's (and many commander's) hearts were not in it. Not really. As these damn Commies took over N. Vietnam and Cambodia, and more Asian countries, they KILLED THE PARENTS, took ALL THE KIDS AND TEENS, who were starving refugee's already, and took them to "re-education" camps; and FED them, and clothed them, and equipped them with Russian Ak-47 automatics. Then they brainwashed them, and turned these children into vicious, fighting Commies to kill our Johnny's... {Keep in mind WHAT WAS WAITING for those newly indoctrinated Commie children/soldiers if they came back and hadn't done well - hadn't won} Those Maoist's who took over N. Vietnam & Cambodia were cruel, heartless, autocrats that turned little Cambodian boys and girls into killing machines. They produced killers like we produced Jets and tanks! Our US Soldiers had never encountered such a conundrum before.... and it demoralized them. It didn't compute, and we mired down.
Just so anybody who reads this knows, the brainwashing capabilities of the Asian Communist Regime is still alive and well...they still hate us Americans. (I think it is envy; 'Covetnous' like in the 10 commandments) And these same autocrats, a couple generations down, are HERE doing their dirty-work on our soil. Don't kid yourselves that "THAT war is done and gone... We are at peace with the Communists of the world"
Oh no. NOT ON YOUR LIFE. Even though Democrat politicians, like John Kerry, go and buy property in Vietnam...
