Black Hole
The Rosebuds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When scientists made it and all was destroyed
My little diary was all that survived
Carries seeds of corruption, of beauty and lies
An ugly little fruit, all alone
Scrapes across unknown dust along the way
Becoming striated to announce where it's been
Carries seeds of corruption, of beauty and lies
Out of context, all alone
Maybe it never finds another to tell

Infinite misses with meaning instead

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Rosebuds's song Black Hole are a poetic exploration of the idea that destruction and creation are inextricably linked. The first verse suggests that despite the catastrophic consequences of scientific discovery, there is always hope for something beautiful to emerge from the ashes. The "little diary" that survived the destruction, while carrying seeds of corruption and lies, also contains the potential for something wondrous.

The second verse continues this theme and adds a sense of isolation and loneliness. The diary travels through unknown territory, becoming marked and scarred as it goes. It carries both the potential for corruption and beauty, but out of context, it is lost and meaningless. The final two lines suggest that even if the diary never finds another to tell its story to, its misses or failures still hold meaning.

Overall, the song seems to be saying that while destruction and loss are unavoidable, there is still potential for something good to come out of it. The idea of seeds of corruption and beauty implies that these things are not inherently good or bad, but dependent on context and interpretation. The ending suggests that even if something beautiful is not recognized or appreciated, it still holds value in its own way.

I seriously don't get why the gal isn't the lead singer on all Rosebuds' songs. Not that the guy is particularly bad...but at least for me, his style is forgettable at best.

Her voice is unique and pretty cool, I agree. I used to ask myself that for a while until I watched the live videos. In the songs she leads, you can tell that she doesn't have a wide range and seems to struggle to make her voice heard. His voice, on the other hand, sound as good as or even better than the studio recordings. Even as a backup vocal, his voice overshadows hers.
