Howard and Crisp met while in college in Wilmington, North Carolina. That fall, they moved to nearby Raleigh to form The Rosebuds. Merge Records discovered their demo in early 2003 and released Make Out as a full-length debut album that October.
The Rosebuds Unwind EP, an EP with six songs, was released in April 2005, followed by Birds Make Good Neighbors in September. Night of the Furies was released in April 2007 and "Life Like" in October 2008.
The Rosebuds will release their next album in the summer of 2011 on Merge Records.

The Rosebuds Lyrics

A thousand ways to leave this place
We must tie our shoes on tight
For the march ahead through sleepy beds
And we'll get by
And we tell ourselves one more time
We get by
And we brace ourselves and hold our hands and fight
The lyrics of "Hold Hands & Fight," by The Rosebuds, are about persevering through tough times. The song's chorus repeats the phrase "And we'll get by," emphasizing the importance of unity, persistence, and hope in the face of adversity. The first verse acknowledges the numerous ways in which one can leave a situation that may be difficult or uncomfortable - these options might include running away or even self-harm - but the song ultimately suggests that running away is not the answer. The march ahead is challenging, but it's one that the band members must undertake together, holding hands and working as a team to overcome obstacles.
The second verse is more optimistic: "We'll get by and we tell ourselves one more time / We get by." The repetition of these lyrics, as well as the suggestion of self-talk, indicates that perseverance is possible when we talk ourselves through tough times. The last line of the chorus, "And we brace ourselves and hold our hands and fight," is the ultimate call to action. The band must come together, supporting one another and working as a team to keep going, no matter how hard things get. In this way, "Hold Hands & Fight" is ultimately an uplifting song, shining a light on the importance of hope, unity, and teamwork in difficult times.
