Howard and Crisp met while in college in Wilmington, North Carolina. That fall, they moved to nearby Raleigh to form The Rosebuds. Merge Records discovered their demo in early 2003 and released Make Out as a full-length debut album that October.
The Rosebuds Unwind EP, an EP with six songs, was released in April 2005, followed by Birds Make Good Neighbors in September. Night of the Furies was released in April 2007 and "Life Like" in October 2008.
The Rosebuds will release their next album in the summer of 2011 on Merge Records.

The fault to each our families
And so we've left
Yeah we tried to understand it
So who I
Put our book back off the shelf
We still have a while to go
And relax then maybe
We can have a good time
This would help
If you'd ever unwind
And relax then maybe
We can have a good time
This would help (i know)
Our curse can spread
We said to us from our families
Brought years, brought tears
The hurt was so demanding
But I don't mind
This book will take a lifetime
We still have a while to go
If you'd ever unwind
And relax then maybe
We can have a good time
This would help
If you'd ever unwind
And relax then maybe
We can have a good time
This would help (ah, ah, ah)
If you'd ever unwind
If you'd ever unwind
If you'd ever unwind
The lyrics of The Rosebuds's song 'Unwind' are about a curse that has affected both the singer and their family, causing pain and tears. The curse is seen as a burden to the point where the singer and their family have tried to understand and figure out a way to break it, but have not yet succeeded. The song encourages the person who has been affected by the curse to unwind, relax and have a good time, as it is believed that this will help in some way. The singer mentions that the book (presumably, the curse) will take a lifetime, indicating that it might be difficult to break its effect.
The phrase "our curse has spread" suggests that the curse has affected not just the singer but their family members too. The damage and pain caused by the curse can be felt for an extended period. The overarching message of the song is to encourage the person impacted by the curse to relax and let go of their worries. The singer believes that by doing so, they can have a good time and find relief to their suffering.
