Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Everyone leaves in the end
And most likely
I will let you down
Oh, I will let you down
I will let you down
I will let you down
I know you want me to die
Oh, I know you'll want me to die
I know you hope ill die
So I won't let you down
Just put your faith in me
And I won't let you down
I know I'll let you down
I know I'll let you down
I know I'll let you down
The S.I.G.I.T's song Let the Right One In is a powerful expression of self-doubt and the fear of not living up to others' expectations. The lyrics speak of the singer's awareness of his own flaws and his perceived inevitability of letting down those who care about him. The repetition of "I will let you down" is a haunting acknowledgement of the singer's lack of confidence in his ability to be the person that others want him to be.
The chorus seems to directly address someone who wants the singer to fail, someone who is hoping for his demise. The singer is aware of this and is trying to assure them that he will not let them down - a declaration that rings hollow in the context of the rest of the song. The final repetition of "I know I'll let you down" is a self-fulfilling prophecy, and the finality of the statement is almost palpable.
