Shelter
The Satellite Station Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Whispers in the wind
Fires in the street
Echoes of a sound,
Falling underneath Running scared,
Shut it down, lock it up, be prepared
Quiet now, not a sound, what if they hear?

Every little word,
Every little spark I see it in their
Eyes, it's falling from their tongues
Hold me close, breathing slow, racing heart, laying low
Tell me when will the world make sense again?

Ooo is this the end? Ooo is this the end?

And I just want you to know that I'll love you forever
No matter where this train may go, we will go there together

And I just want you to know that I'll be your shelter
As long as my lungs still hold air, I will hold you forever

What do we do now, where is it we'll go?
Footsteps up above, shaking down below
Panic spreads, is it real,
I don't know what to feel I can't take anymore, now I hear them

Knocking on the door, breaking down the walls
Loading up their cars, silencing our calls

How is this happening?
Why won't they say something?
Push us in, lock the door, what can we do?

Ooo is this the end? Ooo is this the end?

And I just want you to know that I'll love you forever
No matter where this train may go, we will go there together
And I just want you to know that I'll be your shelter
As long as my lungs still hold air, I will hold you forever

I don't want to fall, I don't want to fall asleep
Cause I don't know what I'll find, when I wake up in the morning

I don't want to fall, I don't want to fall asleep
Cause I don't know what I'll find, when I wake up in the morning

And I just want you to know that I'll love you forever
No matter where this train may go, we will go there together

And I just want you to know that I'll be your shelter
As long as my lungs still hold air, I will hold you forever

And I just want you to know that I'll love you forever
No matter where this train may go, we will go there together

And I just want you to know that I'll be your shelter
As long as my lungs still hold air, I will hold you forever

Overall Meaning

The Satellite Station's song 'Shelter' appears to be a song about the end of the world or at least a catastrophic event. The opening verse paints a picture of chaos, with whispers in the wind, fires in the street, and echoes of a sound falling underneath. The second verse adds to this, with panic spreading and footsteps causing the ground to shake. The chorus offers hope, with the singer promising to love and shelter their loved one forever, no matter what might happen.

The line "every little word, every little spark I see it in their eyes, it's falling from their tongues" suggests that communication has broken down and people are becoming more fearful and desperate. The repeated question "Ooo is this the end?" highlights the uncertainty and fear that pervades the lyrics. The bridge brings up the idea of sleeping and not knowing what one might find when they awake, adding to the theme of uncertainty and fear.

Overall, the song appears to be an emotional response to a time of crisis, with the singer focusing on their love and desire to protect their loved ones, even in the face of an uncertain and scary future.

My daughter turns two in January. This is the song I'm using for her compilation video. I was planning on using Hollow Cove's Pictures... but this has so much great imagery about 2020, not to mention our new city is known as the "Railroad City" so the train stuff is relatable as well. Thanks for making such an epic song.
