The Saturdays made their recording debut in 2007 under the record label Fascination Records, a sub-division of Polydor Records. Their debut album, Chasing Lights, produced five UK Top 25 singles. The band embarked on their first headlining UK tour, called 'The Work Tour', in June 2009.
Their first single, titled If This Is Love was released on 28th July 2008 and entered the UK chart at #8 where it peaked. It reached #33 on the Eurochart Hot 100 singles. The single's sold around 90,000 copies to date. The second single, Up, was released on 13 October 2008. It debuted on the UK singles chart at #5, where it peaked, #11 on the Irish singles chart and #15 on the Eurochart Hot 100 singles. The single was certified as Silver and sold over 285,000 copies to date. The third single was released on January 4th 2009 and was called Issues. The chorus' lyrics had to be changed as the word "slap" sounded too close to the word "stab", and the band didn't want to condone violence. It was later changed to "leave". The single entered the UK chart at #84 and peaked at #4. It managed to hit #14 in Ireland and #21 in Europe. Their fourth single, Just Can't Get Enough, was the official Comic Relief single in 2009. It was a cover of the Depeche Mode song with the same name. It entered and peaked in the chart at #2, giving The Saturdays their highest charted position to date, and their 4th consecutive top 10 hit in the UK. Their 5th single was called Work. It was released on June 29th 2009 and peaked at #22 on the UK singles chart. Chasing Lights was released on October 27th 2008 and re-released on March 16th 2009 including the Comic Relief single. It entered the UK album chart at #11, peaking at #9 and was certified Platinum, selling over 300,000 copies. It also reached #34 in Ireland and #46 in Europe.

Fashion fashion fashion fashion
I always use to be the shy girl
Not a hot girl
And not your type girl
I never cared about the cool clothes
About the right shoes
Who's that hot boy?
Who's that boy?
When he looks at me I'm beautiful
Who's that hot boy?
Who's that boy?
I should be the face of every fashion magazine
Oh!
Ooh-ooh
I'm gonna feel that feeling
Gonna loose control
Ooh-ooh
There's a fire going on in my heart and soul
Never before I met you baby
Never before tonight
But your making me believe it's right
Ooh-ooh
I'm gonna feel that feeling
Gonna loose control tonight
I'm not use to being first pick
Not the cool chick
From the in clique
I have always gone my own way
Been my own girl
In my own world
Who's that hot boy?
Who's that boy?
When he looks at me I'm beautiful!
Ooh-ooh
I'm gonna feel that feeling
Gonna loose control
Ooh-ooh
There's a fire going on in my heart and soul
Never before I met you baby
Never before tonight
But your making me believe it's right
Ooh-ooh
I'm gonna feel that feeling
Gonna loose control tonight
Uh Uh Uh Uh
Is the night
Uh Uh Uh Uh
When I leave
Uh Uh Uh Uh
The past behind me
Tonight
Uh Uh Uh Uh
Is the night
Uh Uh Uh Uh
When I'm here
Uh Uh Uh Uh
About to find me
Yeah!
Ooh-ooh
Yea
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Ooh-ooh
To find the place that hurts
Ooh-ooh
I'm gonna feel that feeling
Gonna loose control
Loose control
Ooh-ooh
Oh
Theres a fire going on in my heart and soul
Never before I met you baby
Never before tonight
But your making me believe it's right
Ooh-ooh
Whoa now
I'm gonna feel that feeling
Gonna loose control tonight
Gonna feel that feeling gonna loose control
Gonna feel that feeling gonna loose control tonight
Gonna feel that feeling gonna loose control
Gonna feel that feeling gonna loose control tonight!
The Saturdays' song "Lose Control" talks about a transformation from being a "shy" and unnoticed girl to feeling confident and beautiful because of a "hot boy." The opening lines of "fashion fashion fashion fashion" could indicate that appearance and fashion play a significant part in this transformation. The singer was not previously concerned with "cool clothes" or making the "right moves," but now they feel empowered by the attention of this boy who makes them feel "beautiful." The repeated phrase "who's that hot boy?" confirms that this person's attention is essential to the singer's newfound confidence.
Throughout the song, the singer repeatedly emphasizes the intensity of their attraction, stating that there's a "fire going on in my heart and soul." They acknowledge that they haven't felt this way before, and the boy is "making me believe it's right." The last few lines of the song suggest that the singer has fully embraced this new, self-assured attitude, indicating that they're "gonna feel that feeling" of confidence and loss of control once again.
Overall, "Lose Control" speaks to the power that other people can have over our self-confidence and perception. While it's possible that the singer is leaning too heavily on this "hot boy" to get validation, the song ultimately celebrates the transformation of the singer's self-image from unnoticed to confident, which is a relatable experience for many people.
