1. The School are from Cardiff, wielding shimmering 60s influenced pop and a plethora of band members.
2. The School from Trondheim, Norway playing Indie Rock with Post-Punk influences
#1: The School are a pop band from Cardiff, Wales, UK. They formed in late 2007 and signed to legendary Spanish label Elefant Records after playing just 4 shows. Their debut album 'Loveless Unbeliever' was released in 2010, produced by Ian Catt (Saint Etienne, Trembling Blue Stars, NOSOTRÄSH), full of sunshine-pop gems.
The album appeared in over 70 'Best of 2010' lists, it was 6Music's Album of the Day, Rough Trade's Album of the Week and Radio Nowhere's Album of the Year. BBC Radio Wales's Adam Walton declared it his 'favourite Welsh pop album of all time', and Molly Ringwald is also a fan. The band have just finished recording album number two, due for release in early 2012.
"a swaying, winsome tune with some of the Phil Spector lushness of Lucky Soul, the Belle & Sebastian-style modesty of Camera Obscura, and the airy, girl-group vocals of both" - Pitchfork
"Proper girly pop..a delightfully danceable album that could have proudly sat in the racks of a Carnaby Street record shop of yore.. there's a stronger Spector/Shangri-Las fixation to The School's sound.. The smalltown uncertainty of Sandie Shaw rears its head on "Is He Really Coming Home?", while there's a Motown-lite spin to "Can't Understand" and bubblegum doo-wop bounce of "Hoping and Praying" - Uncut, 4/5
#2: The School was formed in one of Norway’s most musically fertile breeding grounds, the city of Trondheim, in the spring of 2004. The band made their mark within a year on the thriving and vibrant live circuit – quickly building a reputation for their catchy riffs and in-your-face attitude.
The bands line up consists of three childhood friends from the west coast and two from the northern parts – founded by singer/songwriter Stig Aarskog, who first recruited the twin brothers Karl-Martin (Bass) and Thor-Inge Hoddevik (guitars) to play in the band. Shortly thereafter they drafted in Andreas Elvenes (keyboards/backing vocals) and finally Puppy (drums).
All I Wanna Do
The School Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Everybody thinks they're having fun getting wrecked up and making wrecked up friends
All I wanna do is hang around with you, if you want me to
All I wanna do is hang around with you, let's go home
I don't wanna have to work the week in boredom we can just carry on
Watching people we know falling down, like drunken clowns
All I wanna do is hang around with you, if you want me to
All I wanna do is hang around with you, let's go home
The School's song "All I Wanna Do" is a commentary on the exhaustion and monotony of party culture. The lyrics express a desire to break away from partying and spend time with someone they care about. The negative perspective of party culture is highlighted in the lyrics "Everybody thinks they're having fun getting wrecked up and making wrecked up friends" which portrays the toxic and harmful aspects of the party scene. The singer is tired of the superficiality and chaos of parties and desires a more meaningful connection with another person. The repetition of the phrase "All I wanna do is hang around with you, if you want me to" emphasizes the importance of companionship over the perceived excitement of partying.
Additionally, the lyrics touch on the mundanity of working life and the emptiness of the party scene. The line "I don't wanna have to work the week in boredom we can just carry on" suggests that the singer wants to escape the dullness of a workweek and continue to have fun, but without the negativity and chaos of parties. The phrase "Watching people we know falling down, like drunken clowns and come unstuck, undone" further highlights the negative consequences of partying.
Overall, the song provides a refreshing and introspective perspective on the party scene and highlights the importance of meaningful connection and companionship. It is a call to break away from societal expectations and make personal choices that reflect one's values and desires.

If affection is found from another then words of expression are felt from the heart. This song reflects the sorrow and wishing someone you wish could feel the same way. It's such a beautiful song
