Introduction
The Science of Sleep Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We are the walking dead
Born from indifference
The gleam of life now a faded gem
We drag our feet into the fields of the marble men

Closed eyes and closed minds
Wondering and wondering
On a wayward sojourn
Longing for a purpose
That it all was worth it

And I've watched the passage of time
Slowly creep its way upon me
Left behind I have come to find
It has squeezed the life
Out of me

We are the walking dead
We are the walking dead
(Out of me)

We are the walking dead
We are the walking dead

Overall Meaning

The Science of Sleep's song "Introduction" presents a pessimistic view of life, where the only certainties are death and indifference. The opening lines "We are the walking dead, born from indifference" suggests that life has no inherent value or meaning, and that we are doomed to a life of purposelessness. The "gleam of life now a faded gem" emphasizes the loss of hope and vitality, as we trudge through the "fields of the marble men", a metaphor for the graves of those who have come before us.

The chorus, "We are the walking dead", is repeated several times, driving home the idea that we are all just going through the motions without real purpose or motivation. The line "Closed eyes and closed minds, wondering and wondering" further emphasizes the sense of futility and stagnation. We are all on a "wayward sojourn", searching for fulfillment and meaning, but ultimately finding only disappointment and regret. The final verse "And I've watched the passage of time, slowly creep its way upon me, left behind I have come to find it has squeezed the life out of me" speaks to the inevitability of aging and the pressure it puts on us to find purpose and meaning before it's too late.

Overall, "Introduction" presents a bleak outlook on life and the human condition, suggesting that we are all just "walking dead" going through the motions without real purpose or motivation.

Great Video and Great information!
(I read some disliking the audio, but I was a voice-over artist and I think is very good. I also loved the animation as well!)

Sir Sweet

Do these times for napping include getting to sleep?

For example your first nap time is 7-10 minutes. Do I set my alarm for 10 minutes then put my head on the pillow? Or 25 minutes to take into account 15 minutes to fall asleep?
