Gypsy Plays His Drums
The Seeds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Aah, the gypsy plays his drums
And he's playin' all over the land

And the wild bees can't understand
What has happened to the wild-dog man

And the gypsy plays his drums
And the gypsy plays his drums
Aah, aah, aah, aah

The gypsy plays his drums
The world I can't understand

And the gypsy plays his drums
And the gypsy plays his drums

Stop him, stop him, if you can
Try to stop him, stop him, if you can
From spreading peace and flowers over the land
Try to stop him if you can
Try to stop him if you can

Aah, the gypsy plays his drums
And the people watch down the street
Bearin' flowers that smell so sweet

And the gypsy plays his drums
And the gypsy plays his drums
Aah, aah, aah, aah

The gypsy plays his drums
The world now understands
That all they want is love

And the gypsy plays his drums

And the gypsy plays his drums
And the gypsy plays his drums

Overall Meaning

The Seeds' song "Gypsy Plays His Drums" is a whimsical and poetic tune that tells the story of a traveling gypsy who spreads peace and love through his music. The song starts with the rhythmic sound of the gypsy's drums, which are heard all over the land, and as the chorus repeats, it becomes clear that the gypsy's music is having an effect on the world around him. The gypsy continues to play his drums, and his music spreads joy and happiness wherever he goes. The song is a celebration of the power of music to transcend boundaries, bring people together, and create positive change in the world.

AH, "The Gypsy Plays The Drums" what a wicked track off of "Raw & Alive" a great Seeds album and a mystical song by the legendary Sky Saxon on vocals R.I.P....I found this album at a garage sale for a buck about 30 years ago in mint condition off the original Crescendo label; too bad I played it to death. I don't think it's still in print but who knows. I have never found this track on a studio version. Does anyone know if it exists?
