My understanding would be different. Friction only accounts for a fraction of the difference. The remainder is accounted for by the fact that the ball on the bumpy road had almost all its potential energy converted to velocity, while the ball on the straight incline converted a good portion into angular momentum, or rotation of the ball.

This is why the 60' time is so important in drag racing. The car that gets up to speed first spends more of the constant distance at speed. If they both rolled perfectly, the left one should be slower due to the longer path but I suspect the gravitational potential energy (equal for both as it depends only on the height drop) is converted more into rolling motion on the right while on the left, its there is a lot of sliding. So right side would split the gravitation potential energy into rotational and centre of mass kinetic energy while the left, mostly into centre of mass kinetic energy.

Angular momentum of the ball on the straight slope is what really makes the difference. The ball starts rolling slowly because the friction between the ball and the slope means it must roll. Rolling means that the gravitational potential energy is being converted into forward motion and rotational motion. The ball on the bumpy side accelerates down the first steep part of the slope by slipping over the surface and is thus not rotating. It carries on slipping over the surface and not rotating and so can build up speed faster and get to the bottom faster. That’s the reason for the big difference.

This makes perfect sense. The average slope is much deeper on our left, (the right side as seen by the operator). Note that the highest sections are only equal the the height adjacent to the other ramp at their apex, but the acceleration is a squared function, so the momentum carries the ball to the equivalent point much faster each dip and peak.

Here, distance is something that needs to be taken into account. Have the same paths but make the distance longer (we can actually calculate the threshold distance when the ball in plane surface will overtake the other one). So, if you are considering this case to draw life lesson, think one more time 😂

I believe that this works in the same way for studying as such. When one studies with different intensity he enhances his knowledge faster than one who studies with the same intensity every time
