2) The Sheer is a rock band formed in Haarlem, the Netherlands in the summer of 2000. The initial lineup consisted of Bart van Liemt (leadvocals and guitar), Jasper Geluk (analog keyboards and backing vocals), Jorn van der Putte (bass and backing vocals) and Gert-Jan Zegel (drums). JanPeter Hoekstra (guitar, pedalsteel guitar and backing vocals) joined the band last year during the making of third album Here and Now and Long Before.
Their early work is known to have upbeat 60's and 90's britpop influences, recent songwriting has grown far more melancholic and alt-country.
The Sheer has released two albums to date. Their debut album The Keyword Is Excitement! was released in 2004. The band has won several Dutch awards for upcoming talent like the 'Zilveren Harp' and the '3FM Award'. Their sophomore album, Feel The Need, was released in 2006. Singles from both albums have received considerable airplay on national radio and have made it into game and movie soundtracks. The band gained a respected live reputation and played the Lowlands and Pinkpop festivals among many others.
After years of almost continuous recording and touring, the band retreated in November 2007 to regroup, focus and work on their third coming, Here And Now And Long Before.
The Sheer was signed to Universal Music for the first two records. As the major opted for a new deal during the making of the new album, the band saw a chance to take matters into their own hands and started her own label instead. Song One Records will release the new record together with indie label PIAS in the Benelux.
Here and Now and Long Before was released April 20, 2009. The record is quite a departure from their work so far.

3) Formed in the summer of 2014, quickly becoming a staple in the greater LA scene, Sheer channel an earnestness redolent to that of mid-90s emo and indie rock, while primarily occupying a reverb-induced space suggestive of Galaxie 500 and The Jesus And Mary Chain.
4) Sheer, on the other hand (without a The), which defaults to here, was a mid 80s dance project on Creation Records. It was nominally fronted by the Scot, Thomas Taft (the single, "Cascades", was credited to Sheer Taft). The recordings were mostly by members of Primal Scream. The album, "Absolutely", was released under the name Sheer.
My Window
The Sheer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the world was at my feet
I was trying to imagine
That this view was mine to keep
Don’t you want me to get closer today?
I’ve been looking through my window
Tiny people pass me by
In the corner of my eye
Don’t you want me to get closer today?
Chorus
Look into their eyes ooh don’t
Look into their eyes ooh no
I am looking through my window
All the faces feeling hurt
And the world looks so much smaller
Form my private universe
Don’t you want me to get closer today?
In The Sheer's song "My Window", the singer talks about looking through their window and feeling a sense of detachment from the world outside. They describe the view from their window as one where the "world was at my feet", but they also acknowledge that this view is not their own to keep. This is perhaps a metaphor for the fleeting nature of life and how we may never truly possess the things we desire.
As the song progresses, the singer observes the people passing by their window, describing them as "tiny people" and seeing only a "reflection" of them in the corner of their eye. This further emphasizes the sense of disconnection and distance they feel from the world outside. The chorus urges the listener to avoid looking into the eyes of these people, highlighting the fear and discomfort that can come with truly connecting with others.
Towards the end of the song, the singer acknowledges the pain they see in the faces of those outside their window, yet they still feel that their own world is separate and private. They ask if the listener wants them to get closer, but it is unclear whether they truly want to bridge the divide between themselves and the world outside.
Overall, the song portrays a sense of isolation and disconnection, even when surrounded by others. It raises questions about the nature of human connection and how we can overcome barriers to truly connect with those around us.
