There'll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said, mama said)
Mama said there'll be days like this,
There'll be days like this my Mama said
(Mama said, mama said)
I went walking the other day,
Everything was going fine,I met a little boy named Billy Joe
And then I almost lost my mind
Mama said there'll be days like this,
There'll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said, mama said)
Mama said there'll be days like this,
There'll be days like this my Mama said
My eyes are wide open
But all that I can see is,
chapel bells are callin for everyone but-a me
but I don't worry cause
Mama said there'll be days like this,
There'll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said, mama said)
Mama said there'll be days like this,
There'll be days like this my Mama said
And then she said someone will look at me
like I'm looking at you one day,
then I might find
I don't want it any old way,
so I don't worry cause
Mama said there'll be days like this,
There'll be days like this Mama said
(Mama said, mama said)
Mama said there'll be days like this,
There'll be days like this my Mama said
Hey! Don't you worry,
Mama said mama said
Hey! Don't you worory now.
Mama said mama said,
Hey! Hey!
The Shirelles's song Mama Said is a timeless classic that speaks to the universal experiences of life. The song is about the realization that life is unpredictable and that there will be both good and bad days. The opening lines "Mama said there'll be days like this, there'll be days like this, mama said" set the theme for the song. The singer acknowledges that she's encountered a rough patch and that her mom had prepared her for moments like these.
The second verse introduces a new character, Billy Joe, who appears to trigger some distress in the singer. The lines "And then I almost lost my mind" suggest that the encounter with Billy Joe was perhaps overwhelming or emotionally draining. Nevertheless, the singer reminds herself of her mother's words and finds solace in the fact that tough days are part of life.
The third verse is more introspective and speaks to the fear of rejection. The singer recognizes that someday someone may not reciprocate her feelings but reminds herself of her mother's wisdom. The song concludes with a repetition of the opening lines and serves as a reminder to the listener that the bad days will pass, and there's no need to worry.
Overall, Mama Said is a song that reminds us of the importance of resilience in life. It serves as an anthem of hope that encourages us to stay strong during the difficult moments and to trust that better days are ahead.

I'm 74 and hearing this this song made me cry. We had some hard times, but Momma was always there with the right things to say. She has been gone now 9 yrs. She was 91 when she passed,. and I still remember many of the things she said. I miss you, Momma/
