Oh, my little soldier boy
I'll be true to you
You were my first love
And you'll be my last love
I will never make you blue
I'll be true to youIn this whole world
You can love but one girl
Let me be that one girl
For I'll be true to you
Wherever you go
My heart will follow
I love you so
I'll be true to you
Take my love with you
To any port or foreign shore
Darling, you must feel for sure
I'll be true to you
Soldier boy
Oh, my little soldier boy
I'll be true to you
The Shirelles's song "Soldier Boy" is a heartfelt love song about a young woman's unwavering devotion to her beloved soldier boy. The lyrics express her commitment to him, promising to be true to him no matter what. She believes that he's her first love and he'll also be her last love. She assures him that she'll never hurt or betray him, which is why he should trust in her love. In this world, people can love multiple partners, but she only wants him to love her. She's confident that she can satisfy him in every way and be the only girl he ever needs.
The song's refrain emphasizes the fact that wherever he goes, her heart will follow. Her love for him is so strong that distance and time won't diminish it. She'll always cherish their memories together and long for the day they'll be reunited. Even if he gets posted to a different port or foreign shore, she'll remain true to him. She'll be waiting for him and will always welcome him back with open arms.
Overall, "Soldier Boy" is a beautiful tribute to the sacrifices made by servicemen and their loved ones. It's a reminder that no matter how far we are from the people we care about, our love for them can still bridge the distance.

My Marine husband was killed in Vietnam in August 1967. This song came on the radio while I was driving home from the funeral home the night of his visitation. It brought me to tears then and still does every time I hear it. Beautiful and meaningful song. Love it and all the memories it brings back to me. Thank you.

At 15 I met my soldier boy. Played this all the time he was in Vietnam. Married him at 19. Now 69 and just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. It takes me back to our youth. Thank you The Shirelles.
