The duo fittingly took the band name in order to maintain an English identity and take a small part of England back to America. "Shire" is the original term for what is usually now known as a county in the United Kingdom.
After playing hardly half a dozen shows together The Shires caught the attention of Decca Records who signed them in the UK and they secured a contract with American based record label Universal Music Group Nashville thus becoming the first ever UK country act to be signed to a major Nashville label.

Yeah, you do
You got a crazy sense of humour, dry as the sands in Arizona
You know you do
But I love everything about you
Yeah I love all the little things
Driving across the Mason Dixon line
I've gotta smile
'Cause you're warm like a night in a southern summer
Sweet like a taste of California wine
I love crossing your state lines, state lines
State lines
You can cry like the Mississippi, when we're just watching a movie
It's kinda cute
You sweep me away like a hurricane, over Louisiana
And I let you, yeah
'Cause I love everything about you
Yeah I love all the little things
Like when you roll your eyes like a cool New Yorker
Driving across the Mason Dixon line
I've gotta smile
'Cause you're warm like a night in a southern summer
Sweet like a taste of California wine
I love crossing your state lines, state lines
And I'm learning everyday, a little bit more and more with every state
All the little things
Like when you roll your eyes like a cool New Yorker
Driving across the Mason Dixon line
I've gotta smile
'Cause you're warm like a night in a southern summer
Sweet like a taste of California wine
I love crossing your state lines, state lines
Your state lines
State lines
The Shires’ song "State Lines" is a love song that talks about the little things that the singer loves about their partner as they travel across various state lines. The singer expresses their adoration for their partner’s unpredictable humor that can either be as dry as the sands in Arizona or with a humor that can take one by surprise like the rain in California. The song also talks about various states in America and compares different aspects of each place to their lover’s personality. For instance, the singer compares their partner's warmth to a summer night in the South and their sweetness to a taste of California wine. Every time they cross into a new state, the singer discovers something new about their partner.
"State Lines" also talks about the small details that make a relationship beautiful. The line "I love all the little things" highlights that the singer loves everything about their partner, including the way they roll their eyes or cry like the Mississippi. Together, they enjoy exploring new places and gaining more knowledge about each other as they travel. The song, therefore, celebrates the beautiful journey of love and the excitement of discovering new places with a loved one.

These two are up there with anyone coming out of Nashville - each superb vocalists in their own right, and together, they are harmony heaven. Most impressive and - more importantly - highly listenable. Style and substance...enough said.

It's unbelievable just how many country music venues there are in the UK and yet we haven't adopted it mainstream. We need to embrace this type of music fully and not be ashamed of it. It's best type of music there is.
Antony Evans
JOP agreed. Worked a good few years as a sessions guitarist in the UK (I'm from wales), only ONCE worked on a country album. Can't even remember the name, it was such a 'small' job

Could not agree more, im just a simple girl who lives in the country in north wales, so many people pull a funny face when I say how good country music is, it's like I'm an alien, but I don't care, will always be the best music genre In my eyes,
