And still, after two years, you remember that I said it.
All you feel is anger. All I feel is guilt.
So let's dispose of these explosive lives we have built.
We ain't gonna do nothing right by rehashing the past all night.
I got nothing left to say
That's why I dropped all communications
I figured you would understand.
Everything that I used to respect in you has rotted away.
So become a big walking cliché. (See what I care)
You know what works for you! I know what works for me!
Our paths don't coincide, so we should let it be.
So if you miss me, look around, though I'm sure you won't.
I'll be the one who's taking the road you don't.
So the next time you're drinking and you're thinking it's fine
I hope that every single image of it crosses your mind
It's indescribable, this stagnation. You can swallow your goddamn pride. Cause I'm done.
You know what works for you.
I know what works for me.
And you don't.
The Skatastrophes's song 'Bout Damn Time' is about two people who have gone their separate ways after a tumultuous relationship. The song begins with a sarcastic response from one person to the other person's anger about something that was said two years prior. The singer recognizes that their words had a lasting effect on the other person and expresses guilt about the situation. Both people have created explosive lives, and it's time for them to dispose of them and move on. The singer states that rehashing the past won't do anything right, and they have nothing left to say. They have dropped all communications and feel that everything they used to respect about the other person has rotted away, becoming a walking cliché. The chorus reinforces that their paths do not coincide and, as such, they should let it be. The song ends with a final statement of the singer's feelings towards the situation and encourages the other person to swallow their pride, as the singer is done.
The song is a wistful reflection of a relationship that did not work out. It's a reminder that trying to recapture what was lost is not going to do anyone any good. Instead, it's essential to move on and accept that both people have different paths to follow. The song's slow, melancholic rhythm and emotional lyrics work together to create a sense of longing and sadness.
